A fragrant currant and grape compote for the winter – your kids and husband will appreciate it.
Ripe and juicy berries are a symbol of summer, so don't miss the opportunity to enjoy their vibrant flavor and aroma. Summer berries also make a multitude of winter preserves. Today we have blackcurrants and grapes in our kitchen. We'll make a fragrant compote for the winter.
The compote is prepared without sterilization, which greatly simplifies the process. You can use seeded grapes for the compote, and after uncorking, simply pour it through a sieve, removing the berries. Blackcurrants and grapes will give the compote a rich, dark hue, making the drink truly beautiful and delicious. No store-bought juice can compare. Furthermore, the combination of currants and grapes is an excellent solution. These berries ripen at virtually the same time, so today's step-by-step recipe with photos will be helpful for many.
Ingredients:
- black currant – 100 g;
- grapes – 100 g;
- water – 800 g;
- sugar – 150 g.
How to make blackcurrant and grape compote
Wash the berries and remove stems and leaves. Remove the grapes from the stems. Dark grape varieties (blue and pink) are ideal.
Place the berries in a clean, sterilized jar. For this recipe, we used a liter jar.
Boil water and pour it over the berries in the jar. Let it steep for 15 minutes. The berries will color the water and release their juices.
Pour the compote into a saucepan, bring the liquid to a boil, add sugar to make the drink sweet and pleasant to the taste.
Pour sweet syrup over the berries and fill the jar to the top. The berries will take up part of the jar, and the rest will be filled with sweet compote.
Seal the jar with a lid and place it under a warm blanket until it cools completely. You can leave the compote overnight and then store it in the morning in your storage area. In winter, chill the compote in the refrigerator before opening, then pour into glasses. Enjoy!
