How to prepare apple and pear compote for the winter
We'll need apples and pears. The fruit should fill at least a third of the jar. The more fruit you add to the compote, the richer its flavor. You can also eat the fruit afterwards or use it to make dessert.
Wash the pears thoroughly, cut them into quarters, and remove the cores and stems. Important: there's no need to peel the pears.
We also wash the apples, cut them into 4 pieces and cut out the cores.
Wash the jars thoroughly beforehand. Place the prepared fruit in the jar.
Add the desired amount of sugar. This amount will make the compote moderately sweet. If you prefer a less sweet compote, you can add less sugar.
Then we add citric acid—it serves as a preservative. And cinnamon—it adds a piquant and spicy note to the compote.
Fill the jar to the top with clean, cold water. Cover with a canning lid.
We sterilize the jar by filling it with water up to the shoulders. Sterilize for 15 minutes after it boils.
Afterwards, we roll up the jars, turn them upside down and wrap them in a blanket until they cool completely.
After the compote has steeped for a couple of days, it can be tasted.
Bon appetit.
