The hybrid cucumber variety "Alliance" is produced by two different producers. One was bred by A. Mashtakov, Russia. The other hybrid was developed by the Dutch company Bejo Zaden. The Dutch variety has gained widespread popularity. This review and characteristics confirm this. The crop was added to the Russian state register in 2008. The hybrid variety is approved for cultivation in the North Caucasus and Lower Volga regions.
General characteristics of the Alliance cucumber
Alliance belongs to a group of varieties with a short fruit formation and ripening period. The first cucumbers appear 44-47 days after the first seedlings emerge. The fruits grow cylindrical and elongated. The coloring is uneven, with the tops being light green and dark green toward the stem. Almost invisible white stripes can be seen across the entire surface. The skin is glossy, but dotted with small bumps with white spines. These cucumbers belong to the gherkin group. They grow to no more than 10 cm in length and weigh 70-90 g. The flesh is juicy, not soft. The flavor is pleasant, without bitterness. These cucumbers are ideal for canning.
The bushes are medium-sized, indeterminate, and do not actively form shoots. No side shoots or pinching is required. Flowers are predominantly female. The root system is strong and resilient, allowing it to penetrate deep into the soil and be virtually water-independent. Leaves are medium-sized, green, and wavy along the edges. One to three ovaries are formed under each leaf node. The yield is 4-5 kg per square meter.
Advantages and disadvantages of cucumber
Dutch cucumber selection has become popular due to its many inherent advantages and few drawbacks. The crop's advantages include:
- the plant is resistant to most cucumber diseases;
- high taste qualities of vegetables;
- stable yield regardless of weather conditions;
- the hybrid shows resistance to hot weather;
- the fruits have a long shelf life;
- Cucumbers withstand transportation over long distances well;
- The fruiting period is long. With constant care, fruit will set until the first frost.
Flaws:
- seeds from fruits cannot be collected for sowing in subsequent planting seasons;
- Poor immunity to gray mold. To minimize the risk of disease, it is recommended to tie the bushes to a trellis or support with a stretched net.
Disease resistance
Vegetable crops have good immunity to most common fungal and viral diseases. Under unfavorable conditions or when grown in contaminated soil, plants can become infected with gray mold. Staking the bushes can prevent this.

To treat the disease, use sprays based on biologically active fungicides or folk mixtures.
- A home remedy based on dairy products. At the initial stage of gray mold development, treating the plants with a solution of whey, milk, or kefir will help. Take 10 liters of water and dissolve 1 liter of any dairy product. Spray the plants generously with the resulting solution. To fix the solution on the leaves, add 2 tablespoons of grated soap or shampoo to the solution.
- Use a biological agent Fitosporin-MThe product does not harm plants, animals, beneficial insects, or the environment. To prepare the solution, dissolve 20 g of the product in 10 liters of water at room temperature. The treatment course for plants with Fitosporin-M is two months. During this period, the vegetable crop should be sprayed 2-3 times, every 10-15 days.
Agricultural technology and care
Sow seeds in late April or early May, when the soil warms up to 14-15°C. Place 2-3 seeds per hole. Plant at a depth of 3-4 cm. Space seeds 5 cm apart in the hole, 20 cm between holes, and 40 cm between rows. The plants love sunlight and dislike drafts. Choose a location facing south. To protect from the wind, plant near corn, which will act as a protective barrier against drafts. In the spring, two weeks before sowing the seeds, fertilize the bed with compost or rotted manure (1 bucket per 1 m²), water generously and dig up the soil.
Water the plants no more than once every two days. To reduce evaporation, mulch the soil under the root system with dry hay, straw, or sawdust. Water consumption per plant is 3-4 liters. Keep an eye on weeds in the garden. Prevent them from spreading. They attract pests, which then migrate to cucumbers and other vegetables. When the main stem of the plant reaches 40 cm, tie it to a support or stretch a net over it.
Feed the plants At least twice during the growing season. The first time, when the cucumber plant produces its first three leaves. Use a fertilizer solution containing nitrogen, potassium, and phosphorus (15 g each) and water (10 l). Apply 1 liter per bush. Apply the prepared mixture immediately after preparation. Apply the second feeding during flowering. Use a solution containing baker's yeast. Take 8 liters of warm water, dissolve 15 g of baker's yeast, and a liter of wood ash. Let the mixture sit in a warm place for 2 hours. Then, water the plants under the bush at a rate of 1 liter.

I grew the Alliance cucumber variety using Russian and Dutch selections. I liked the Dutch variety better. The fruits ripen quickly. The bushes require little care. They produce fruit evenly. The fruits need to be picked daily. I use the cucumbers for canning. The pickled cucumbers are very crisp and delicious.

I grew the hybrid variety Alliance once. I'm an avid agronomist. Every year I plant new vegetable varieties in my garden. I grew the cucumber Alliance a couple of years ago. I can describe it in both positive and negative terms. I liked the consistent fruit production, good immunity, and ease of care. The only drawback, I consider the average yield for a hybrid. I recommend growing it in garden plots. However, with an average yield, you won't get much profit on an industrial scale.
