Godetia: planting and care in open ground

Godetia

godetia landing and holdingIf you're interested in godetia, planting, and caring for it—a photo of this American beauty will tell you—it's exactly what you need in your garden to make it simply charming! Choose a sunny spot with medium-density soil, preferably loamy. It can even be placed in partial shade. Water moderately, and godetia will reward you with simply stunning blooms.

Interestingly, godetia translates as "ray"—that's exactly the bright, delicate ray it will appear in your garden soon after planting. Planting godetia is not difficult at all, and this plant is quite undemanding, tolerates cold temperatures with fortitude, and the variety of its species allows even this single plant to create a splash of color in your garden.

Godetia seedlings

To get the most beautiful blooms from godetia as early as possible, you can sow it as early as March in a tray of soil as seedlings. To ensure healthy plants and better blooms, experienced gardeners recommend adding a little white clay to the soil.

This beautiful plant will bloom around 75 days after planting and will delight you with its wondrous variety of colors until frost. To prolong its blooms, remove faded flowers promptly. Interestingly, godetia flowers are always open, regardless of the weather; even in rain or on sunless days, they remain open, continuing to delight you with their heavenly beauty.

Adviсe:

  • A cut godetia looks great in a vase, and if you add a few crystals of regular citric acid to the water, it will even smell like vanilla.
  • You need to water it often, but not too much; godetia doesn’t like excess moisture.
  • Although the manufacturer claims that godetia can be sown before winter, experience shows that this will only waste the seeds! It's better to take the time to grow the seedlings in the spring, and you'll reap the benefits of lush, long-lasting blooms from July to September.

Godetia is a resilient, hardy plant that blooms beautifully, abundantly, and for a long time. What a garden ornament!

If you want to surprise your neighbors with beautiful flowers as early as late May or early June, use Godetia seedlings. Planting and caring for seedlings is somewhat challenging, as the plant doesn't like being moved.
