We always want our garden plot to be not only bountiful but also beautiful. Mornings and afternoons are always busy, and in the evenings, our eyes crave a rest. That's where garden flowers come in handy: perennials, photos and names, that you can easily grow at home.
If your plot doesn't have a sunny spot, which is often the case when growing a large number of vegetables, fruits, and herbs, you should consider shady spots. Moreover, there are shade-loving perennials for your garden that will delight you with their blooms regardless of the sun's presence. These flowers, among others, can be grown even in non-black soils, which is also a big plus. You can also grow a rose at home and then transplant the bush into open ground.
What perennials to grow in your garden
Aconite (wrestler)
Many people call this plant "elf's slipper." Naturally, this name comes from its interesting appearance. The plant is completely undemanding of soil and often reaches a height of one meter. It blooms in June, and if the blooms are cut off, they will decorate the room for a long time. It's important to remember that these plants are poisonous, and the tops must be trimmed before winter.
Astilbe
It thrives in shade and prefers moisture. It reaches a height of one meter, but is more commonly around 50 cm. Its flowers are always graceful: they bloom in panicles in July, with the panicles reaching 30 cm in length.
Bergenia
This plant will delight you not only with its flowers, but also with its large, rounded leaves over 30 cm in diameter. It grows well under trees in orchards, but also prefers sunny spots. The soil should not be wet, and you can enjoy flowering as early as May. The flowers are purple leaves on a sturdy stem. Winter pruning is not required.
Brunner
These perennial garden flowers (photos and names) are ideal for Siberia. They feature blue flowers, reminiscent of the familiar forget-me-not. The plant is short, only about 40 cm tall. It can be grown in any soil, but the plant will bloom by July, after which the leaves will quickly dry out and the flower will lose its visual appeal.
Volzhanka
It can grow in full sun but also thrives in shade. It doesn't require any special soil and tolerates moisture well. Standard varieties can reach two meters in height, while dwarf varieties reach only 40 centimeters. Finding the latter varieties for indoor cultivation is quite difficult. Its decorative appearance continues into winter, even after the flowering period has ended.
Heuchera
This heat-loving perennial garden plant can also be successfully grown in partial shade without sacrificing its decorative appeal. The leaves can be not only green, but also yellow, purple, or deep burgundy. Even without flowers, the plant looks impressive. However, when the flower stalks grow up to 60 cm long, the plant acquires a special charm. The flowers resemble pinkish bells and bloom all summer until September.
Tenacious
The plant is low-growing, reaching a maximum height of 25 centimeters. It's easy to cultivate and doesn't require much attention. However, it blooms modestly: small blue flowers appear in May and June.
Solomon's seal
In the wild, this plant thrives in dense forests. So, a secluded corner of your garden will suffice. The flowers are white bells, which can be enjoyed as early as early May. The arrangement of the flowers and leaves is somewhat reminiscent of lilies of the valley, but Solomon's seal often reaches a height of 150 centimeters. Over time, the flower grows, forming dense thickets.
Lungwort
During drought, the plant will require additional watering. It grows to 30 centimeters tall and blooms in May with bell-shaped flowers. Depending on the variety chosen, the flowers can be purple, blue, or white. The leaves have a distinctive spotted pattern.
Hellebore
It tolerates drought well, but thrives only in well-drained soil. Depending on the variety, it reaches a maximum height of 45 centimeters. Flowers can be red, purple, or white. They can be admired in May. This perennial can grow in the same location for up to twenty years.
Primrose
It's best planted in the shade, as it often begins to wilt in full sun due to insufficient moisture. Soil composition isn't important; low-growing varieties (up to 25 centimeters) are the most popular, although depending on the species, the plant can reach a height of 80 centimeters. Flowers, which appear on the plant in May, can be white, yellow, or red.
Tiarella
This perennial garden flower blooms in midsummer. Specifically, the flowering period begins as early as June and continues until September. It reaches a height of 20-50 centimeters, with flowers gathered in beautiful clusters that rise 15 cm above the bush. This arrangement gives the entire plant a delicate, lacy appearance.
Tradescantia
It thrives on moisture and shade, grows up to 30 cm, and boasts a profusion of flowers all summer long. The flowers themselves are no more than 5 cm in diameter, but they can be white, purple, or lilac.
Even if you plant just a few of the perennials listed in your garden, it will delight you with its beauty and brightness throughout the entire gardening season. Some people choose petunia.
