Description and characteristics of the Khozayushka potato

Khozayushka is a potato variety developed by Russian breeders at the Siberian Research Institute of Potato Growing. It subsequently became popular throughout Russia, Ukraine, Belarus, and Moldova. The experience of many gardeners confirms that the best regions for growing potatoes are southern and central Russia, including Siberia. Khozayushka is distinguished by its increased resistance to adverse weather conditions, including sudden temperature fluctuations, heat, and cold.

Gardeners always grow upright bushes with numerous leaves. The bushes reach a height of 50 centimeters. The elongated fruits are medium to large, but their weight does not exceed 200 grams. One of the main distinguishing features is the high starch content, which makes this potato variety especially popular with cooks. This yield contributes to the increasing popularity of the Khozayushka variety.

Yield of the variety

The housewife grows best in sandy and loamy soils with a high black soil content. It is recommended to plant potatoes in areas that will be kept loose to ensure adequate oxygen supply and proper root development.

In most cases, potatoes are harvested approximately three months after planting. However, in Siberia, harvesting is delayed by approximately two weeks, typically in September. One hectare can yield up to 550–600 centners of tasty and healthy potatoes, which will keep for up to six months. 96% of tubers are suitable for long-term storage, retaining their original qualities.

Fact! Khozayushka is a variety with high commercial performance (85-98 percent), and can be successfully sold in markets, supermarkets, and private stores.

Advantages and disadvantages

The Khozayushka potato has numerous important benefits:

  • versatility in growing conditions;
  • optimal yield indicators;
  • a pleasant starchy potato flavor that is ideal for almost any culinary purpose;
  • long-term storage possibility;
  • resistance to external factors, which guarantees the collection of a high-quality harvest;
  • good immunity, due to which potatoes often remain healthy.

It should be noted that in unfavorable weather conditions, growth cracks appear on potato tubers, which impair the appearance of the crop, but the taste characteristics remain at a decent level.

Growing rules

Landing

The Khozayushka variety is suitable for growing outdoors only, and is best planted in early May. The soil should warm to approximately 7°C (44°F) by planting time.

Before planting, add a kilogram of compost and two tablespoons of nitrophoska and ash to the holes. Add half a dose of superphosphate. The fertilizer is then sprinkled over a 2-centimeter layer of soil, large enough to support the potatoes.

The optimal planting pattern is 35 by 60 centimeters. The depth of the planting holes can vary, but the average is 7-10 centimeters.

After planting potatoes, the soil is leveled with a rake to ensure better moisture absorption.

Care instructions

The description of the Khozayushka potato variety and a photo of the harvest indicate that comprehensive care is essential.

  1. Weeding is done in two stages. Initially, weeds are removed. After two weeks, weeding is repeated to remove any remaining weeds.
  2. Watering is essential, but requirements vary depending on growing conditions. Vegetables will absorb water if it reaches a depth of half a meter.
  3. Hilling is performed only during the first stage of vegetable crop development. This procedure ensures protection from spring frosts. Hilling is also recommended after watering and rain.
  4. Before loosening and hilling, fertilizer must be applied. It is advisable to apply fertilizer only before the potato plants bloom to prevent nitrate buildup in the tubers.

Proper care guarantees a high-quality harvest.

Diseases and pests

Potatoes exhibit good resistance to virtually all diseases and parasites. In hot weather, potato tubers can be affected by scab. A strong immune system greatly simplifies potato care, but prevention remains important.
