Allergies aren't as harmless as they might seem at first glance. They're a serious, chronic condition that's difficult to treat. Allergens entering the body trigger the development of rhinitis, dermatitis, and asthma.
People at risk should monitor their health and take medication or seek a climate change during the active vegetation period. Moscow residents can find out when exactly they should do this by examining the 2024 allergy calendar.
List of plants that cause allergies
Several plant species that can cause allergies grow in Moscow, including:
- sagebrush;
- bird cherry;
- poplar;
- birch;
- oak;
- alder;
- maple;
- acacia;
- ash;
- hazel.
And of course, ragweed...
Even if such grasses, shrubs, and trees don't grow nearby, this doesn't necessarily mean allergies won't develop. Pollen is quickly carried by the wind from one point to another in the city. Furthermore, Moscow is a city with a hostile environment, so its effects are exacerbated for allergy sufferers.

Consider not only the tree pollen map but also the pollen patterns of certain flower species. High rates of allergic reactions occur when weeds, quinoa, plantain, and dandelion are in bloom. Their pollen can be present in the capital from early spring until late summer.
How to fight
By using an allergy calendar to determine the blooming season of birch, poplar, and other plants, you can determine the most dangerous time for your health. To avoid worsening your health, limit your exposure to pollen.
During the flowering period, do the following:
- Reduce the number of walks to a minimum, go outside only when necessary;
- If going outside is unavoidable, use a special mask with nasal filters; it will help prevent the allergen from entering the body;
- Regardless of whether there are plants nearby that you are allergic to or not, cover the windows and doors to the balcony with wet gauze, periodically moisten it and renew it throughout the season;
- regularly carry out wet cleaning in the premises;
- After each time you come in from outside, take a shower and change into home clothes;
- Make your diet more dietary, remove honey, seeds, chocolate, nuts and any product that can cause an allergic reaction;
- drink more fluids;
- To purify the air in your room, use an air conditioner with an air ionizer or special purifiers, which will rid your home of pollen particles.
A mandatory health precaution is taking antiallergic and antihistamine medications as prescribed by your doctor. In rare cases, you may also need to take decongestants and anti-inflammatory medications, depending on the accompanying symptoms.
