Pumpkin and orange compote for the winter
Today we'll prepare a delicious pumpkin and orange compote for the winter. Pumpkin doesn't have a strong flavor, but orange has a rich citrusy aroma. The combination of these two ingredients produces an excellent result. The compote will be slightly sweet, not cloying, and will have light citrus notes.
This drink can be served warm or cold. If serving chilled, add a couple of mint leaves for a refreshing touch. Serve this compote with pies, cakes, or any dessert—it's a hit with both kids and adults.
There are a lot of different holidays in winter, so compote won't sit on your pantry shelves for long.
The amount of ingredients in the step-by-step recipe is calculated for a liter jar.
Ingredients:
- pumpkin – 100 g;
- orange – 1 pc.;
- sugar – 90 g;
- water – 750 ml.
How to make pumpkin and orange compote
Let's prepare all the necessary ingredients. Cut the pumpkin in half, peel the tough skin, remove all the seeds, and discard the strings. Cut the pumpkin flesh into medium-sized pieces.
Let's make pumpkin syrup. Place the sugar in a saucepan, add clean water, and bring to a boil. Place the chopped pumpkin in the saucepan and bring to a boil again. Cook the pumpkin over medium heat until soft.
Wash the orange thoroughly and wipe it dry. Remove the zest, peel off the white pith, and divide into segments. Cut the segments into medium-sized pieces.
Add oranges to the pan with pumpkin and cook for another 10 minutes.
Pour the hot compote into pre-sterilized jars and seal with sterilized lids. Turn the jars upside down and wrap them in a warm blanket until completely cool. Once cooled, move the compote to a cool place.
The pumpkin and orange compote is ready. The drink is vibrant and delicious.
Bon appetit!
