Apple and grape compote for the winter
Apples are often used to prepare drinks for the winter, but grapes shouldn't be overlooked either. Like other berries, they contain a large number of vitamins and minerals, making apple and grape compote not only delicious but also healthy.
The apple variety should be chosen based on taste preference. If you don't want to cut the fruit, choose ones that are a suitable size so they can easily fit through the jar. You can also use any variety of grapes, although it's worth noting that blue berries will impart a richer aroma and color to the compote. If desired, you can leave the grapes in the bunch and use them whole. It's important that the grapes are firm and have strong skins.
You'll need to prepare 3-liter jars and lids in advance. Sterilize them using your preferred method.
Cooking time: 1 hour 30 minutes. The ingredients listed in the recipe are for one 3-liter jar.
Ingredients:
- grapes – 1 bunch;
- apples – 3 pcs.;
- granulated sugar – 1 cup;
- water – 2.5 liters.
How to prepare apple and grape compote for the winter
Separate the grapes from the bunches and clean them of any impurities. Remove any unusable berries and debris. Rinse thoroughly, pat dry with a paper towel, and pour into the bottom of the jar.
Add the prepared apples on top. Wash them first, remove the core and seeds, and cut into medium-sized slices. The peels can be left on.
Pour boiling water into the jars, cover with a lid, and let steep for about 30 minutes. This effectively sterilizes the fruit. During this time, the drink should take on color from the juices in the berries and fruits.
Drain the liquid from the jar into a saucepan, add granulated sugar, and bring to a boil. Stir thoroughly and let simmer for a couple more minutes. Add more sugar if desired.
Pour the hot liquid back into the jar and seal tightly with the lid. If there isn't enough liquid to fill the jar to the top, you can add boiling water.
The apple and grape compote is ready. Turn the jar upside down and wrap it in a warm cloth. Store it in a cool, dark place, away from light and sunlight.
