How to create a beautiful flower garden with your own hands

Flowers

A summer cottage is more than just a vegetable garden with raised beds; it's also a beautifully landscaped grounds. It's hard to imagine a country house without a beautiful flower garden. When properly presented, landscaping can conceal the flaws of the house and grounds and highlight its strengths.

Site planning

Before you begin landscaping, you should plan the area. It's best to do this on paper if possible.

Note!
All permanent structures should be marked on the plan: the house, outbuildings, gazebo, bathhouse, barbecue, paths, etc. Don't forget about the vegetable garden. Ideally, it should be located near the recreation area (gazebo, barbecue). Fresh herbs and vegetables will be a welcome addition during your vacation.

The plan should include all greenery, both existing and planned. Here, vertically growing plants can be used to separate the seating area from prying eyes. Flowerbeds and sculptures should be marked. If space allows, a pond, waterfall, fountain, or rock garden would be a good idea.

When landscaping the area in front of a house, it's important to consider its size. But even if the area is small, properly managed landscaping can visually enlarge it by choosing the right plants.

Design styles

Don't forget about design styles. The most common are Russian, European, and Eastern.

  • The Russian style favors wooden structures, carved decor, trimmed shrubs, and lush flowerbeds. Conifers can be a useful addition. Plants such as sunflowers are appropriate here, paired with simple wildflowers such as daisies, cornflowers, and forget-me-nots.
  • European style relies on clear geometry. A trimmed lawn in front of the house, clear lines of bushes and flowerbeds, and regularly shaped paths are essential.
  • The oriental style includes the use of rocks (rock gardens, path decorations) and low-growing conifers. The oriental style is characterized by tranquility and serenity.

Decoration of the territory

When creating a green area on a site, there are some things to consider.

  • Relief.
  • Climate conditions.
  • Size and shape of the plot.
  • Degree of illumination.

A varied topography can highlight every corner of a property. Small hills, slopes, and mounds can be used to create terraces, bridges, rock gardens, and wide steps.

Note!
Lighting plays a significant role. When observing, note the sun's movement and the movement of shadows. Only then can you correctly select and plant plants in their proper locations.

The most important aspect of decorating is the choice of plants. They should be selected so that they bloom throughout the season. Some plants delight the eye in autumn with their distinctive foliage colors.

There are certain techniques in landscape design. For example, to visually enlarge a plot, it's wise to use cool tones: purple, light blue, and blue. Warm tones, such as yellow, orange, and hazel, will create a sense of illumination in a shaded area. If the plot is small, low-growing plants with small flowers can be used.

Note!
The walls of your home can be decorated with vertical ornamental plants. They will create a backdrop for shorter plants. Hanging pots and wall hangings can be used for decoration.

Climbing plants are great for decorating fences and arches; for example, climbing roses look beautiful. A hedge looks especially attractive in a garden. Perennial herbaceous plants, shrubs, and dwarf conifers are all suitable for this purpose. You can mix styles when decorating your garden, adding your own personal touch.
