Catalog of black tomato varieties

Tomatoes

"Black" refers to tomato varieties with dark-colored fruits. These can be divided into two broad groups: the first has blue and purple tones, and the second has brown, chocolate-colored fruits, sometimes with a red undertone.

For open ground

All of them, for the most part, require more care and are rarely noted for their high yields and cold hardiness. However, thanks to the work of breeders, there are varieties suitable even for outdoor cultivation in the central and northern climates.

For the middle zone

In most regions of Russia, except for the southern ones, black-fruited tomatoes in open ground yield less than those grown in greenhouses. However, there are several varieties that will produce good results in regular garden beds:

For the northern strip (North-West, Ural, Siberia)

In northern climates, late-ripening varieties don't have time to ripen by the end of summer, and early varieties can be damaged by frost, so mid-season varieties tend to thrive. Although black-fruited tomatoes are generally demanding of heat and light, there are several surprisingly weather-hardy varieties:
