If you've decided to buy a metal fence for your dacha, don't rush. Before ordering, you need to weigh all the pros and cons of the possible options. Never rely solely on cost and design.
Advantages and disadvantages of corrugated sheets
Corrugated sheeting is a popular choice for fencing garden areas. Coating galvanized steel with various polymers—polyester, plastisol, and Pural—gives it a relatively attractive appearance and durability. Another advantage is its affordable price.
However, keep in mind that in addition to its numerous advantages, even high-quality corrugated sheets have their own characteristic disadvantages:
- Lack of soundproofing. During rain or hail, you'll hear a "drumbeat";
- Inability to transmit light. Structures made of profiled sheets darken the area and hinder the growth of plants;
- High wind resistance. If your country house is located in an open, windy area, you shouldn't buy this type of fencing material. Otherwise, you'll regularly need to repair the fence.
The technical condition and integrity of the sheets will need to be constantly monitored. Even minor damage to the polymer layer will lead to corrosion.
If you only visit your dacha occasionally, you should choose a different fencing option. If you're away for several months, the corrugated metal, left unprotected, can almost completely deteriorate. It's worth noting that the supporting elements of the structure (cross beams and posts made of ferrous metal) are also prone to corrosion.
Strengths and weaknesses of 3D welded mesh
A 3D fence is a good, if not the best, choice for those looking for a beautiful, durable, yet affordable fence. Installation can be done by hand: companies offer the material in the form of plates (assembled from high-strength rods), ready to be installed on the property.
You can also order a turnkey service: purchase 3D sections with delivery and installation on-site. These fences offer the following advantages:
- A modern and attractive look. The three-dimensional visual effect is achieved through the V-shaped protrusions of the metal rods. The structure appears textured and dynamic;
- Reliability and corrosion resistance. During production, the metal is treated with a special protective compound. Vertical rods and wave-shaped bends are used to provide strength;
- Resistance to decay and deformation;
- Allows natural light and air to pass through. Mesh fencing does not darken the area. It is also breathable;
- Durability and low maintenance. The average service life is 50 years. Dirt can be removed from the rod surfaces with a regular hose.
- Relatively lightweight, making transportation and installation easy. As we've already mentioned, installation can be done independently, without the need for heavy equipment.
The performance properties of 3D welded mesh fencing can be compared to those of wrought iron fencing. However, the former is significantly cheaper.
Should you choose chain-link fencing?
Chain-link fencing is the cheapest and most short-lived option. This type of iron fence can only be considered a temporary solution. You can install it yourself. But be prepared to repeat the process every few years.
In terms of reliability and ensuring the safety of the territory, chain-link fencing is also inferior to any other metal fencing option.
Pros and cons of metal picket fencing
Metal picket fencing, or, in other words, Euro picket fencing, has the following advantages:
- Attractive appearance;
- The ability to transmit light and air;
- Reliability.
However, if you're looking for an inexpensive fence, this option isn't for you. The high cost of Euro picket fencing is due to the complexity of its production. Unlike, for example, corrugated sheet metal, the metal coil is initially cut into strips, after which each strip is rolled. The process is both complex and time-consuming.
Important! We advise against purchasing picket fencing without beveled edges (with sharp edges). It's cheaper, but this material is unsafe to use.
It's also worth noting that Euro picket fencing is notoriously poorly vandal-resistant, making it attractive to scrap metal collectors. If your property isn't guarded, you risk not finding your fence when you arrive at your dacha. It also won't deter criminals looking to break into the property.
Conclusions
Which fencing to choose for your dacha is, of course, up to the buyer. However, after analyzing the listed materials, we recommend choosing 3D mesh, as it offers the best price-quality ratio, is durable, and is easy to install.
