Cucumber Zyatek f1: description and characteristics, reviews

Cucumbers

Zyatek F1 is a hybrid cucumber variety developed by Russian breeders in 2007. It is recommended for cultivation in the Volga-Vyatka, Central, Central Black Earth, Northern, Northwestern, North Caucasus, and Middle Volga regions. It is suitable for open-field cultivation but also thrives in greenhouses.

General characteristics of the variety

Zyatek is an early, high-yielding variety. The fruits are suitable for salads and pickles. The bushes are medium-sized and climbing. The plant is disease-resistant. The leaves are medium-sized, smooth, and bright green. The vines are short.

On average, 3-5 ovaries are formed. Cucumbers are cylindrical in shape. The skin is tender, the flesh is crisp and juicy. It is free of bitterness. The fruits have white spines.

Please note!
Cucumbers are characterized by the presence of tubercles and intense pubescence.

The flowering type is female. The fruits are green with white stripes. When ripe, the cucumbers reach 12 cm in length and 3.5 cm in diameter. Each fruit weighs approximately 95 g. The yield is 7 kg of cucumbers per plant.

Among the main advantages of this hybrid it is worth highlighting:

  • taste characteristics;
  • attractive appearance;
  • possibility of universal application;
  • the opportunity to collect pickles and gherkins;
  • high yield rates;
  • resistance to adverse weather conditions;
  • good harvest preservation, fruits do not spoil during long-distance transportation;
  • unpretentiousness in terms of care;
  • resistance to a number of diseases.

The high cost of seeds is one of two significant drawbacks of this cucumber variety. The second drawback is dictated by the variety's very nature. Its hybrid nature prevents the plant from producing seeds for subsequent planting.

The process of growing cucumbers

Zyatek F1 cucumbers are easy to grow. They don't require insect pollination. To ensure a good harvest, proper agricultural practices are essential. If you have pelleted seeds, no preparation is required. If you plan to plant regular seeds, you should:

  • sorting;
  • preventive disinfection;
  • hardening and soaking.

Sowing is possible in several ways: through seedlings and directly into the ground. For southern regions of Russia, sowing seeds directly into seedbeds is recommended. For other regions with less favorable climate conditions, planting through seedlings is more suitable.

Temperature determines how quickly a variety's seeds germinate. If temperatures are below 13 degrees Celsius, seedlings will not emerge and the seeds will die.

Please note!
Expect seedlings to emerge within 10 days if the temperature is 15-20°C. Seedlings may emerge on the fifth day if the temperature is around 25°C.

Maintaining a temperature of 20°C (68°F) is recommended. This ensures rapid germination. Under these conditions, cucumbers become hardened. Late May is the time for sowing, both in open ground and in a greenhouse. Place the seeds in specially prepared holes, 2 centimeters deep.

If you're growing cucumbers from seedlings, they need to be carefully prepared, even though the seeds themselves don't require any treatment. Preparation should begin in April:

  1. The seed should be placed in a pot filled with nutritious soil.
  2. Water carefully.
  3. Cover with glass or film.
  4. Then put the pots in a dark place.

As soon as the seedlings appear in the pots, they should be moved to a bright room. Remove the glass or film. The first leaves to appear indicate that the seedlings are ready for planting in the soil.

Hardening off the plants is an important step. This should be done a week before planting them in the ground. The seedlings should be brought out onto the balcony. Initially, this process should last no more than 20 minutes. Subsequently, the seedlings can be left on the balcony for several hours.

Advice!
Plant seeds or seedlings 50 centimeters apart. Otherwise, the plants will inhibit each other's growth, which can negatively impact yields. If planting seedlings outdoors, it's important to choose a sunny, wind-protected location. If planting seedlings in a greenhouse, the planting date can be advanced by one to two weeks.

During the development of bushes, it is necessary to carry out agrotechnical measures:

  1. Water regularly. Water the plants before the fruit ripens. Water moderately. Root rot may occur. Avoid pouring water directly onto the leaves; water through furrows.
  2. Weeding and loosening the soil. These activities are considered desirable. The soil should be loosened once a week. Care must be taken not to damage the plants.
  3. Fertilize cucumbers. This is important to do once a week during the growing season. It is recommended to combine fertilizing with evening watering. The best fertilizers are potassium and phosphorus solutions. Liquid manure is recommended. The ratio for preparing a manure solution is 1:10. If using bird droppings, the ratio is 1:20. Nettle infusion is effective. Place chopped nettles in a barrel, cover with water, and seal tightly. Let it steep for one week. It is important to maintain a balance and not over-fertilize the plants. Otherwise, it can negatively impact the plants. The average number of fertilizing applications per season is 4-5.
  4. Protect plants from diseases and pests. The variety is resistant to most diseases. However, preventative measures are recommended. For this purpose, you can use potassium permanganate or spray with boric acid. To protect against insect pests, the bushes can be treated with infusions of garlic or wormwood. An infusion of tobacco dust with laundry soap is effective. Wood ash helps repel slugs. The use of chemicals is not recommended.
  5. Gartering plants.

Harvesting and storage

The first harvest is expected 40-45 days after planting. The crop ripens evenly.

Advice!
Cucumbers need to be harvested daily, avoiding overripe fruit. Overripe cucumbers retain their flavor, but their appearance becomes unattractive.

Cucumbers are great for eating fresh. They are also suitable for canning and pickling.

Fresh cucumbers can be stored in:

  • refrigerators;
  • cellars;
  • basements.

The shelf life is one week. After that, cucumbers begin to lose their flavor and appearance.

Zyatek F1 is suitable for long-distance transport. No special conditions are required for their transportation.

Reviews

Zyatek F1 is an excellent choice for both summer residents and farmers. It's no wonder it's popular in Russia and neighboring countries.

I've already recommended "Zyatok" to everyone I know. I really like these cucumbers: they're sweet and crunchy. You can't taste the seeds because they're so small. The skins aren't bitter. And I get a decent harvest. They grow and ripen quickly and well.

Maria, 42 years old.

My whole family absolutely loves cucumbers, in any form. So, we choose versatile varieties for growing them. Zyatek F1 is just that. It produces a consistent harvest, bearing fruit practically all summer long. The yield is just enough for our family. The only downside is the high cost of the seeds.

Gregory, 47 years old.

I heard a lot of good reviews about the Zyatek F1 variety. I decided to try growing it. The cucumbers are standard, with decent flavor. I wouldn't call them a champion in yield, but they're decent. There are no barren flowers. The ovaries are arranged in clusters.

The Zyatek F1 variety has good resistance to diseases and adverse weather conditions. The harvest keeps well, and the fruit does not spoil during long transportation. These cucumbers are easy to care for.
