Ramiro Pepper: Variety Description, Reviews

Pepper

This is one of the most popular varieties of sweet pepper, commonly grown by gardeners. It has a pleasant flavor and subtle aroma.

Characteristics and description of the variety

To get an idea when choosing a variety, you need to carefully study its description. However, the seeds of this pepper are rarely available for sale, so people have found a solution: they buy peppers in supermarkets and, after using the fruit for its intended purpose, save the seeds for propagation.

Productivity

The yield from one bush can reach 2 kg, as up to 12 large fleshy fruits grow on the bush.

IMPORTANT! To get such a harvest, you need to adhere to cultivation rules and feed the peppers with special fertilizers on time.

Height, plant weight, color, shape

This variety can be easily distinguished from others by carefully studying its external description:

  • the shape of the fruit is elongated and narrow compared to its length;
  • the length of the fruit is 30 cm;
  • diameter up to 4 cm;
  • one bush produces up to 12 large fruits;
  • the thickness of the fruit wall is 6 mm;
  • the weight of one fruit can be within 100-150 grams;
  • has a sweet, memorable taste.

The color of the fruit may vary depending on the ripening period.

IMPORTANT! Thanks to its description, the variety is easily recognizable and is in demand among people.

Fruit ripening rate

This variety ripens rather late. It takes 105 days from seed germination for the fruits to fully ripen.

Timing of planting seedlings

The seeds are planted for seedlings at the end of February; if the gardener has a greenhouse, they are sown 15 days earlier.

Advantages and disadvantages of the variety

This variety has quite a lot of advantages:

  • large bushes with numerous ripening fruits;
  • ripens well in a greenhouse;
  • fruitful;
  • excellent taste;
  • the pulp is juicy and sweet.

The only drawback is that peppers must be grown only from seedlings.

Features of growing and caring for the variety

To ensure the seeds germinate successfully, they are first tested for their ability to grow. Seeds are placed in salted water; any that float to the surface are unsuitable for growing seedlings, as they are dead—they do not contain an embryo that will develop into a pepper seedling.

The remaining seeds are then disinfected with a pink solution of potassium permanganate. To do this, they are soaked in the solution for a couple of hours. After this procedure, the seeds are ready for sowing.

IMPORTANT! These two procedures should not be skipped, as the seeds may be dead and then waiting for sprouts will be in vain.

The finished seeds are sown in pots filled with a nutritious, loose soil. The soil can be purchased at a flower shop or made at home. For your own soil, use equal parts of:

  • turf soil;
  • sand;
  • humus or soil from a compost heap.

Before use, the soil is disinfected using any convenient method. For example, by freezing it in the refrigerator freezer for 24 hours.

IMPORTANT! The bowl should have drainage holes to drain excess water after watering.

Once the bowl and soil are ready, water by immersing the bowl in warm water. Once the soil is saturated, make shallow holes (up to 2 mm) and plant the prepared seeds.

At this point, cover the seed tray with clear glass or a plastic bag to create a humid greenhouse environment. This will ensure more uniform germination of the sweet pepper seedlings.

The bowl should be kept in a room with a temperature of 25 degrees Celsius. At lower temperatures, the seeds may not germinate.

Once most of the seeds have sprouted, remove the covering and place the container on a bright windowsill. If a bright windowsill is not available, supplemental lighting with special incandescent lamps will be needed for the growing sweet pepper seedlings.

The grown seedlings need to be pricked out and when they already have two true leaves, they are planted in separate cups with a capacity of up to 500 grams.

Further care of the seedlings will consist of:

  • irrigation;
  • turning it on different sides in relation to the sun (so that the plant does not fall on one side).

Before planting outdoors, seedlings should be hardened off for 10 days. This will help them adapt well to their new location.

IMPORTANT! Seedlings are planted in the morning on a cloudy day or in the evening. This will give them time to establish themselves in their new location.

The main purpose of the variety

Ramiro pepper is used in cooking, its:

  1. baked in the oven.
  2. used in the preparation of sauces and lecho.
  3. used in the preparation of first courses.

Feedback from those who planted

Olga

I selected seeds from store-bought peppers, choosing only the smooth, marketable ones. At the end of winter, after checking for germination, I planted seedlings. The peppers turned out wonderfully. In the summer, they delighted me with the same fruits I'd bought at the store. This indicates that they are a cultivar, not a hybrid. The flavor was wonderful—sweet, aromatic, and juicy.

Peter

After reading various reviews, I found this pepper in the store and collected the seeds. At first, I thought it was a variety of chili. But I'm very pleased with the fruits that grew – they're sweet and plump. They make wonderful salads. And my wife makes a wonderful lecho with them for the winter.

Galina

This pepper is much tastier than the ones sold in stores here in winter. However, it still doesn't store well in my home. Nevertheless, before the New Year, I can treat myself and my friends to the fruits of this delicious bell pepper.

In which regions is it grown?

Sweet peppers are cultivated throughout the country. However, only in the south, in the Krasnodar Krai, are they grown on a large scale for sale at markets and for use in various canning operations across Russia. The further north the growing region, the shorter the summer. However, gardeners on their small private plots manage to grow sweet peppers even in the Moscow region. However, in these regions, they require protection from recurrent frosts in early June, and in late August, they are covered because of the possibility of severe cold snaps at night, requiring careful monitoring of nighttime temperatures.

IMPORTANT! When growing peppers in northern regions, you need to have a film shelter or a greenhouse.

Resistance to diseases and adverse conditions

This pepper variety is susceptible to stolbur, a disease that causes the leaves to turn yellow and eventually dry out. The fruit also develops an irregular shape. This disease is transmitted by insects that have adapted to feeding on plant sap.

To get rid of this disease, you need to treat the bushes with special chemicals that are sold in stores.

Storage rules

To ensure peppers are stored for a long time, follow these recommendations:

  • harvest peppers when they are technically ripe;
  • For storage, select only good quality fruits without damage;
  • The room where the pepper will be stored should have a temperature of +7 degrees.

IMPORTANT! The Ramiro variety does not store well, and if you only have a small amount, it is best to cut it up and freeze it in the freezer compartment of the refrigerator, spreading it out in a thin layer in transparent plastic bags.

The benefits and harms of eating pepper

Regular consumption of sweet peppers has a positive effect on human health. They contain various antioxidants that:

  1. thin the blood.
  2. participate in blood renewal.
  3. increases hemoglobin.
  4. contains many vitamins.
  5. has a positive effect on the nervous system during depression and nervous breakdowns.

People with gastrointestinal conditions should avoid consuming large quantities of peppers. They are also contraindicated for pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.
