Sweet pepper "Belozerka": characteristics and description of the variety

Pepper

Sweet peppers are grown by almost everyone in their gardens. They're an excellent vegetable crop for winter preserves and fresh consumption. The Belozerka sweet pepper is a good choice, as evidenced by its characteristics, variety description, high yield, and positive reviews.

Sweet bell peppers are very rich in vitamins, and they retain their vitamins even when canned or frozen. This is why they are grown in large quantities in home gardens.

Among the many varieties of sweet pepper, "Belozerka" has a good reputation. Its description mentions high yields, and gardeners report that the fruits have a pleasant flavor. To successfully grow this plant, you need to know all its characteristics.

Description of the variety

The Belozerka sweet bell pepper is an early-ripening variety. Harvesting begins 140 days after germination. The fruits are smooth, cone-shaped, and have three sides. They are light green when ripe, then turn yellow, and then red when fully ripe. Each fruit can weigh between 90 and 140 g.

Ripening occurs evenly, yielding up to 8 kg per square meter per season. The peppers have a distinct aroma and pleasant flavor. Wall thickness varies depending on weather conditions and plant care, but averages 5 to 7 mm.

Attention! Many gardeners know this variety as "Lumina." It's the first to appear on local market shelves because it ripens before all others.

This plant has a compact bush, growing from 40 to 70 cm in height. Staking is practically unnecessary. A distinctive crown of foliage forms at the top, protecting the fruit from the sun.

Disease resistance

The Belozerka sweet pepper has excellent resistance to a variety of dangerous diseases. It is resistant to the following:

  • Alternaria blight;
  • fungal diseases;
  • Verticillium wilt;
  • blossom-end rot, dry rot, wet rot;
  • viral infections.

This variety can be grown in a greenhouse or outdoors. It is not affected by sudden temperature fluctuations. A single spray per season with any insecticide is sufficient for preventing pests.

Advantages and disadvantages of culture

Each variety has its own pros and cons that must be taken into account when choosing the right crop for cultivation.

Positive aspects of the Belozerka variety

  • easy to grow;
  • does not require a lot of fertilizers;
  • high yield;
  • has a long shelf life;
  • it is resistant to diseases;
  • tolerates transportation well.

This variety has no obvious drawbacks. Some gardeners in central Russia note that sweet peppers are very difficult to grow from seeds and seedlings. However, this is a southern crop, so growing them in northern regions requires more effort.

With such positive qualities, the Belozerka variety is popular for commercial cultivation. In the home garden, this variety is versatile. It's well-suited for stuffing, fresh storage, and canning.

Ripening speed

Sweet peppers of all varieties ripen approximately 4 months after germination. The speed of ripening can be affected by:

  • weather conditions;
  • the temperature of the water they are watered with;
  • diseases;
  • pests;
  • amount of sun rays.

The Belozerka variety ripens 115 days after sowing in the ground with good care and favorable weather conditions.

Preparing seeds and seedlings

Pepper seedlings should be planted in the last week of February or the first week of March. It's important to remove any bad seeds. To do this, soak the seeds in water for two hours. The empty ones will float to the surface; the rest should be soaked in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 10-15 minutes to disinfect. Biostimulants (such as Zircon) can be used. Follow the instructions.

Place the pepper seeds on a damp cheesecloth on a saucer and place in a warm, sunny spot, such as a sunny windowsill. This will help the seeds germinate faster. It's important to add water regularly. Prepare pots with soil for the seedlings.

Advice! Before planting seeds, disinfect the soil by rinsing it with boiling water. This will prevent the plants from becoming infected with fungal diseases.

Each pot should have 2 cm of soil below the rim. Gently plant the sprouted seeds with tweezers, covering them with soil and compacting them slightly. Water carefully to avoid washing away the seeds. Place the pots in a bright location with an average temperature of 25°C. Cover them with plastic or glass to create a greenhouse-like environment.

The first shoots will appear in about 7 days (the film or glass can be removed). Periodically, the pots should be turned so that different sides face the sun to ensure the stems form straight, rather than leaning to one side.

Please note! Overwatering will cause the plant to stretch upwards, resulting in thin stems. This isn't ideal for repotting. You can tell if the plant is overwatered by the accumulation of water in the tray.

You can feed the seedlings with liquid fertilizers, such as Rastvorin or Agricola. Use according to the instructions. Two weeks before transplanting outdoors, begin hardening off the seedlings. To do this, take them outside during the day. This will help the plant acclimate to cooler temperatures. However, they should be protected from drafts and direct sunlight.

Planting in the ground

Belozerka peppers are transplanted into open ground when the weather becomes pleasant. In central Russia, this is approximately late May to early June. The average daily temperature should be at least 18°C. Peppers don't like clay soil. Peat and humus should be added to the beds. There should be at least 50 cm between rows and 40 cm between holes. The holes should be deep enough to accommodate the entire root system, with the root collar at soil level. Phosphorus, nitrogen, and potassium can be added to the holes if desired.

Landing rules:

  1. Carefully remove the plant from the pot with a lump of soil.
  2. Place in a prepared and watered hole.
  3. Sprinkle with earth.
  4. Tamp down.
  5. Water with warm, settled water.
The Belozerka sweet pepper can be grown in many regions of the country. In the southern regions, it can be grown in open ground, while in more northern areas, it thrives in greenhouses.

Care Features

During growth, the plant needs to be watered regularly, approximately twice a week. Remove side shoots and yellowed leaves, and fertilize with organic fertilizer. Watering is best done in the evening, when the soil has cooled slightly.

Important! Loosening the soil is an important part of plant care and leads to increased yields. It's important to keep in mind that sweet bell peppers have roots close to the soil surface. When loosening the soil, be careful not to damage them.

Before the first flowers appear, water the plants from above using a sprinkler. Later, you can water at the roots. Each plant should receive up to 7 liters of water per watering.

Interesting! Sweet peppers will yield a good harvest if they are planted in a place where zucchini, pumpkin or cabbage previously grew.

Plant fertilizing

For better development of the root system, increasing yield and plant strength, regular fertilizing is necessary;

  1. When the first three leaves appear on the seedlings, you need to add 5 g of potassium fertilizers and 15 g of superphosphate per 5 liters of water.
  2. After 2 weeks, the second feeding is the same as the first time, but it is necessary to double the concentration of nutrients.
  3. When transplanting seedlings into the soil, you can add Kornevin fertilizer to the hole to improve plant survival.
  4. When the first flowers appear, fertilizer, such as ash, is also added. Two cups of ash are needed per square meter. At the same time, hilling and loosening the soil are carried out.
Fertilizers may have other uses, but they should be used according to the instructions. Every gardener develops their own plant care system over time.

Reviews from those who grew the Belozerka variety

Vladimir, Saratov:

"I've been growing Belozerka for a long time. The results are always excellent, even if the summer is rainy and there aren't many sunny days. The peppers ripen quickly and are delicious even if you pick them while they're still green, before they turn red."

Irina Alekseevna, Tula region:

"We grow sweet peppers all the time. We like the 'Belozerka' variety for its ease of care. Bell peppers are generally considered fussy to grow. But the 'Belozerka' variety is easy to care for. Our soil is fertile, so we don't even need to fertilize it."

Klimovs, Izhevsk:

"At our garden, we plant sweet peppers in a greenhouse. The weather conditions don't allow us to plant them outdoors; they'll take a long time to grow. The 'Belozerka' variety is perfect for us. You don't have to wait for the fruit to ripen. We pick them when they're still light green, but already large. They're already delicious. Some ripen to a red color. It's a very good variety; we didn't even know it, but it turns out it was developed back in the last century."
