Don't rush to clean up: what can you leave in your garden beds in the fall?
The season has passed, but many fruits and vegetables can continue to be harvested until the first snow. Late-ripening vegetables, fruits, and greens are especially prized for their long shelf life. Consume…

Factors why you shouldn't store carrots in the garden during the winter.

  1. Keeping the root crop in the ground will lead to rapid loss of moisture, so it will quickly begin to wilt.
  2. This fruit does not remain dormant for long; if conditions allow for growth, it quickly sprouts.
  3. The temperature in the soil is higher than in the air, so if you leave the vegetable in the garden bed in the fall, it may immediately begin to produce vegetative shoots.
  4. Unripe fruits are more susceptible to pathogens and do not store well. They will continue to grow, but their quality will be poorer.

It's best to harvest on time. Harvesting later will result in loss of nutritional value, altered flavor, and changes in texture.

Important!
If you plan to store carrots for a long time, it's best to choose appropriate varieties. Many gardeners prefer the "Moscow Winter" and "Gribovchanin" varieties.
