We all, even ardent healthy lifestyle advocates, have short "fasting" days and indulge in small indulgences, occasionally allowing ourselves to eat something downright unhealthy, including sweets, alcoholic cocktails, or baked goods. However, there are many well-known foods that lose their benefits or don't pair well with each other.
1. Potatoes with meat
One of the most popular food combinations can cause heartburn, bloating, belching, and indigestion. Potatoes are a starchy carbohydrate that requires an alkaline environment for digestion.
Meat is a protein food that requires an acidic digestive environment. As a result, the food is poorly digested, and the body does not receive the nutrients it contains.
2. Bananas and milk
Many people make milkshakes and smoothies with bananas, but they're not the healthiest drink. For dieters, they're too high in calories and sugar, and by the time they're digested, bananas become so acidic that they can curdle milk, turning it into a mucus-forming substance.
3. Fruits after meals
Apples, grapes, and other fruits are not recommended for dessert. On a full stomach, such additions have a negative effect, as they "lay on top" of previously eaten food, slowing its digestion.
Fruits contain a lot of water, and when eaten separately from other foods, they skip the stomach and are digested in the intestines.
If they encounter an "obstacle" in the form of other food, the fruit begins to ferment. This can lead to bloating, and the beneficial substances in apples, pears, and even tomatoes are lost during the fermentation process.
4. Porridge with milk
Unfortunately, milk-based cereals are not at all healthy. Combining cereals with milk neutralizes the beneficial properties of both products. It is not recommended to mix starchy cereals with milk, which is a source of protein.
Milk is digested not in the stomach, but in the small intestine. Once in the digestive tract, it coats the walls of the stomach and intestines, preventing the absorption of nutrients, such as iron, which is particularly abundant in buckwheat.
5. Sour fruits and berries with yogurt
Yogurt has long been known for its digestive benefits. It's an excellent source of protein, just as fruits and berries are a source of vitamins, fiber, and other beneficial elements. However, together, they don't make for a healthy combination.
Yogurt reduces digestive fiber, promoting the production of toxins, which can lead to upset stomachs and allergic reactions. Kiwi contains enzymes that break down milk protein, making it bitter.
6. Eggs with bacon or ham
Scrambled eggs with sausage, ham, or bacon were also banned, even though they are a very filling dish and one of the most popular breakfasts, providing energy for the whole day. The combination of different proteins, each digested differently, puts a significant strain on the digestive tract.
The same goes for an omelet with cheese, tomatoes, and bacon. It's better to eat all of these ingredients separately, with short breaks, or make an omelet with juicy vegetables and herbs.
There are special tables of incompatible foods and rules for their consumption. Proponents of a separate diet are convinced that this method can both improve health and lead to weight loss. However, it's best not to go to extremes, as we are all unique, as are our digestive tracts.
