The Russian winter in the countryside is truly beautiful. While there are plenty of activities in the city, in the outback, you sometimes don't know what to do without going crazy and dying of boredom. Most villages have poor internet access, so there's no way to even distract yourself—that's what people who have recently moved to the outback think. In reality, you can find useful, profitable, and engaging activities.
Useful activity
During the winter, you can do a lot of useful things that do not require rushing.
- Chop some firewood. Summer and fall are often the months when there's little time to chop firewood. To pass the time, grab an axe and chop some firewood.
- Go fishing. Near villages, there's always a pond, lake, or river full of fish. Catch a few and you'll be able to cook yourself lunch and dinner.
- Get a few pets. Farming in the countryside takes a lot of time because it requires constant care. If you don't want to raise chickens, pigs, or rabbits, get a horse. It's not only a beautiful animal, but also very useful. Just imagine: winter, snow everywhere, and you're riding a horse. I think it's anyone's dream to live in such conditions. Plus, if you have a horse, you can easily earn money by giving sleigh rides to children or by accompanying weddings.

- Heat up a sauna to order. What's a village without a sauna? Advertise it and let people come from all over the city to enjoy your sauna. You'll not only be busy, but you'll also earn some money.
- Start strengthening yourself and exercising. Winter is a great time to take care of your health. Go for a run in the morning, do some exercise at lunch, and stretch in the evening. By spring, you'll be in great shape, and the time will fly by.
- Take up handicrafts. Women can knit, sew, embroider, and make handmade crafts, while men can carve wood.
- Build feeders for birds that do not fly away to warmer climates.
Exciting activities
Winter is a time for relaxation for villagers. Despite the cold, there's plenty to do in these remote areas. These include:
- Sledding. Adults and children alike love horse-drawn sleigh rides.
- Celebrating mass celebrations. Don't refuse to attend mass celebrations, when everyone from the community gathers to perform various rituals, dance, and sing.
- Visit your neighbors. Villagers are very welcoming people, so get to know them, come over for tea and a heartfelt conversation. Between conversations, winter will pass in the blink of an eye.
- Skiing. If sledding isn't your thing, there's an alternative: skiing. Whether you enjoy it alone or with friends, it's one of the best winter activities in the countryside.
- Building a snowman. Even though you're an adult, building a snowman will take you back to your childhood.
- Take up reading the literature you sorely lacked time for during the summer.
