Experts distinguish two categories of gardeners: hard workers and lazy people. Renowned gardener Galina Kizima has developed a unique method for growing potatoes. It represents a happy medium. With minimal effort and time, you can achieve stunning results.
Not everyone grows potatoes using Kizima's method. Many gardeners prefer the traditional method. They simply don't realize that they can reap a good harvest even without much effort.
Who is Galina Kizima?
Galina Kizima is a gardener. Based on her own experience, she developed a unique method for growing potatoes. She has also written numerous books on the subject.
The essence of her method is that the crop is not planted in the ground, but spread out on beds and covered with hay. During the summer, the crops must be kept weed-free.
The presented method allows you to grow an excellent harvest without wasting time and effort.
Preparation of planting material
Before planting, it's important to properly prepare the tubers. To get started, follow these steps:
- Wash the tubers thoroughly and place them in a container with hot water, the temperature of which should be 45 degrees.
- The potatoes should lie in the basin until the water reaches room temperature.
- Dissolve potassium permanganate in a container and slowly pour the solution onto the tubers.
- Stir the water until it turns pink.
- Let the tubers sit for 15 minutes, then rinse and dry them.
Another way to prepare potatoes for planting is to use Fitosporin, dilute it in water, and soak the potatoes in the resulting mixture for half an hour. Then, let the potatoes dry.
Next, you need to green the potatoes. This takes at least 20 days. To simplify the process, place the dried tubers in glass jars and place them on a windowsill. Alternatively, you can line the potatoes with newspaper and store them on a cabinet.
Next, the potatoes need to sprout. Choose a dark, warm location in advance. The tubers should be placed in boxes, separating each layer with newspaper. It's best to place the box on a chair and keep it near a radiator. Germination will take three weeks.
Step-by-step process for planting potatoes
Many gardeners are interested in how to plant potatoes using the Kizima method. As is well known, there's no need to dig the soil. Sprouted tubers should be spread out in the bed. It's best to plant two rows, 50 cm apart. The distance between the tubers should be 25 cm.
As for the size of the tubers, it's best to choose potatoes the size of an egg. Smaller ones won't produce a good harvest, and larger ones will have to be cut lengthwise.
The potato plot must be exposed to sunlight throughout the day. Otherwise, the tops will grow too large, but the tubers will be small.
Caring for potatoes
Protecting garden beds from frost is an important procedure. To protect crops, cover them with hay. Newspapers or wrapping paper can be used for covering.
The bed should be covered with bags. Don't use plastic wrap, as this will cause the crops to rot.
Once the danger of frost has passed, the bags should be removed and the bed should be covered with weeds. Weeds should only be placed on hay or paper, protecting the seedlings. Throughout the summer, weeds should be covered over the crops. Crops should be hilled with mown grass.
Once the potato plants flower, tubers will begin to emerge from the stolons. During this period, it's important to remove all the flowers. This will help the tubers grow larger.
When and how to harvest
By learning how to plant potatoes using Kizima's method, you can get a good harvest. However, harvesting must also be done correctly. Harvesting can begin when the flowers begin to fade.
First, you need to move the compost, select the large tubers, and return the compost to its original location. This will allow you to harvest again later.
After all the potatoes have been harvested, the tops need to be dried. They should not be placed in a compost heap. This is because the tops contain solanine, which is destroyed by exposure to sunlight.

Alexander, 34 years old:
"I've been using Galina's method for three years now. I don't understand why people call it lazy. Covering crops with hay requires a lot of effort. I'd especially like to mention the harvest; the potatoes are clean and large."
Galina Kizima's method is gaining popularity every year. Many gardeners use it in their difficult endeavor.
