A lunar planting calendar for 2024 for Moscow region gardeners

Lunar sowing calendar for gardeners and vegetable growers for 2025

Each region has its own planting calendar. The summer cottage season in Moscow and the Moscow region begins early. The first plantings are scheduled in late February. 2024 is no exception. Naturally, climate, weather, and forecasts are taken into account.

The season ends in the last weeks of October. Growing various vegetables, berries, fruits, and herbs in these conditions requires considerable effort.

Climate of the region

Planting according to the moon is very beneficial, as it eliminates the need to spend virtually any time calculating favorable dates. It's especially important to prepare for natural surprises, such as frosts at night, when daytime temperatures remain consistently high.

Dacha in the Moscow region

The lunar calendar has gained popularity in recent years. It has become more precise, but regional climates should be taken into account. The Moscow region, with its unique attractions, and surrounding areas have a short warm season. This limits the ability to grow pumpkins, melons, and other heat-loving crops.

Accordingly, the following circumstances are taken into account:

  1. January. Periodically inspect the garden plot. Remove excess snow from tree crowns and add snow to the area around the tree trunks.
  2. February. Prepare seeds, containers, and growth stimulants.
  3. March is a busy month. Sow seeds for seedlings, and transplant the young shoots that emerge. Some of the seedlings are moved to a greenhouse.
  4. April. Sowing continues. If spring has arrived early, sowing is possible, but only under plastic with additional cover. Before the sap begins to flow, fruit crops and berries should be planted, the crown should be shaped, and sanitary pruning should be performed to rejuvenate the trees.
  5. May is the busiest month for gardening. It's permissible to sow heat-loving plants. Garden plants and shrubs begin to bloom vigorously. Careful maintenance is essential, including pest and disease control.
  6. June. Some use this month to plant a second wave of various crops, including both fruits and vegetables. Because severe cold weather is possible in the Moscow region, in some years the seedlings are kept indoors or in a greenhouse until the 14th or 16th. They harvest the fruits that have ripened on the early-ripening bushes. They also pick berries and preserve them for the winter.
  7. July, August. Harvest. Replant fast-growing and early-ripening varieties. Choose those that tolerate short daylight hours. If the summer is rainy, harvest the roots earlier. Otherwise, they will simply die.
  8. September, October. The bulk of the harvest is harvested, and the soil is prepared for the next planting season and the coming winter. Before frost, trees and shrubs are pruned and the cuts are coated with garden pitch.
  9. November. Starting in the first ten days, winter crops are planted, trunks are wrapped, flower beds are covered, and young trees are covered. Even slightly below-zero temperatures are dangerous for them. Debris and plant debris are removed from the area, and the compost pile is watered.
  10. December. It's time for rest, not only for the garden, but for its owners as well.
Advice!
Free time can be spent inspecting garden equipment, replacing it, and repairing it.

Each month has specific tasks, and it's important to follow them to avoid any problems with gardening.

Phases of the Moon

It has been proven time and again that the moon can influence all life on planet Earth. Plant growth occurs through numerous biological processes occurring within them.

Moon

Depending on the state of this celestial body, four phases are distinguished. During these phases, the satellite can complete an entire 29.5-day cycle. And each has its own impact on all living things.

New moon

The satellite is practically invisible in the night sky. At this critical moment, all metabolic processes cease. Gardening, especially replanting and pruning, is not recommended.

Time is allocated for personal rest. However, one can do the following:

  • removal of dry and damaged parts of the tree;
  • pest control;
  • weeding.

The rest of the activities are left for later.

Growing

Both edges of the lunar disk are directed to the right. This activates metabolism in the above-ground parts of plants. The risk of damage to the root system is minimal.

During the waxing moon, the following is permissible:

  • planting crops that bear fruit above ground, such as cucumbers, peppers, melons, greens, fruit trees, flowers, medicinal herbs;
  • transplants;
  • garters;
  • earthworks;
  • application of foliar feeding.

Pruning and grafting are not allowed.

Full moon

During this period, or more precisely, before and after it, a turning point occurs. It is not suitable for:

  • earthworks;
  • harvesting;
  • preparing them for long-term storage.

Heat treatment, tying, grafting and loosening are strictly prohibited.

Waning

Both ends point to the left. During the wilting stage, all nutrients are directed toward the root system. This is not a good time to treat for pests and diseases. Don't transplant seedlings. However, confidently carry out:

  • planting root crops;
  • thinning of densely spaced seedlings;
  • division of perennial crops;
  • weed removal;
  • watering;
  • top dressing;
  • planting young trees and shrubs, grafting and pruning them.
Note!
It's easy to distinguish between a waxing and waning moon, as if you mentally place a pencil on the crescent, it will resemble the letter P—waxing. As the moon wanes, its mirror image forms.

Constellations according to their influence on plant crops can be divided into:

  1. Favorable. Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces.
  2. Neutral: Libra, Taurus, Capricorn, and Sagittarius.
  3. Unfavorable: Aquarius, Gemini, Virgo, Leo, and Aries.

Helpful tips

Planting and care are carried out according to traditional rules established over the years. These rules have been used to maintain vegetable gardens and orchards for centuries, yielding excellent, high-quality harvests. Soil lacking a fertile soil layer can only support weeds and crops that are undemanding of growing conditions.

To obtain good fruit in large quantities, prepare a fertile bed in advance. The ideal layer is 40-50 cm.

Note!
The most fertile lands are in the Central Black Earth Region. On loamy, sandy, and calcareous soils, fertilizers are applied regularly. The substrate should be nourished after harvesting and before planting. This will ensure abundant and strong seedlings.

Aeration of the site is an important procedure. It improves air circulation and loosens the soil. It is performed before:

  • sowing;
  • transplanting seedlings;
  • during the growth and ripening of fruits.

The soil will be able to receive enough oxygen to develop plants with strong immune defenses. Improved air exchange will not be effective without abundant and regular watering. This life-giving moisture is beneficial for seedlings and the soil. If there is virtually no rainfall in the summer, artificial irrigation is used.

Recommendations:

  1. Use only natural water temperature for irrigation. This advice is especially important when working with seedlings. Using well water is prohibited. The water should be settled in barrels or old bathtubs beforehand.
  2. The safest fertilizer is horse manure. It contains virtually no nitrogen. When using chicken manure, it's important to carefully observe the proportions. With this mixture, it's better to underapply than to overapply.
  3. The most popular, safe, and effective organic fertilizers include ash, peat, plant tops, straw, bone meal, and silt. These natural materials help replenish nutrients needed for growth and development.

    I think there's a mistake in the text. If both ends point to the left, it's a waxing moon, not a waning one. Or am I missing something?
