Rules for growing cucumbers in your garden

Cucumbers

It's hard to imagine a garden without a cucumber bed. In the summer, no picnic or outdoor feast is complete without this juicy, delicious fruit. If the cucumber bed recreates the favorable environment in which it thrives, the harvest will be abundant and of exceptional quality.

The key here is to thoroughly study this vegetable's life cycle, not missing a single detail. If even one detail is missed when growing these plants, all the gardener's work could be in vain.

Conditions in which cucumbers feel comfortable

The conditions cucumbers need for good growth and development must be studied in advance, even before planting them. The main task during this period is choosing the best location for planting these vegetables.

  • Cucumber is a heat-loving plant.

This is why sowing cucumber seeds into the ground should only be done when the bed itself has already warmed up sufficiently.

Note!
Planting cucumber seeds too early can seriously affect their growth, or the plants may even die from the cold.

Planting can begin only after frost has completely passed. It's important to note that by this time, the upper layers of soil should already be well warmed by the sun, at least 15 degrees Celsius.

If you start sowing seeds when the soil isn't warm enough, the seeds will freeze and won't sprout. However, don't delay sowing too long. It's recommended to sow cucumber seeds no later than June 15th.

Seeds should be planted at a depth of no more than two centimeters. Care should also be taken to avoid planting too close together, as this will significantly impact their future development, as well as the quantity and quality of the fruit.

  • For normal growth, cucumbers need to be well nourished.

That's why the bed where cucumbers will grow must be prepared before sowing the seeds. Overripe cow manure is a good fertilizer for cucumbers, and chicken manure is also often used.

Note!
This fertilizer is applied under the crop to ensure the soil absorbs all the nutrients necessary for plant development. It also allows the soil to absorb the required amount of carbon dioxide.
  • Cucumbers have a special root system.

Cucumber roots are located on the surface of the earth, which is why the soil density must be suitable for these plants.

Note!
Roots grow on surfaces to ensure adequate access to oxygen from the outside environment and to obtain sufficient moisture. To achieve this, the soil in the cucumber bed must be well-loosened.

Inexperienced gardeners often damage the root system of cucumbers, not knowing the peculiarities of its structure.

Typically, most cucumber roots are located no more than five centimeters below the soil surface. Experienced gardeners know that loosening the soil near the plant is very dangerous for its survival.
