Advantages and disadvantages of the cucumber hybrid "Be Healthy F1"

Cucumbers

The "Bud' Zdorov F1" hybrid cucumber variety was developed by Russian breeders in Mytishchi. A description of the vegetable is available in the Unified State Register. The self-pollinating plant exhibits good resistance to diseases and pests. Planting is carried out in a greenhouse and open ground. According to reviews, the variety's yield ranges from 12 to 15 kg per square meter. A ripe fruit is shown in the photograph.

Characteristics of the variety

The early-ripening hybrid "Bud' Zdorov F1" is suitable for canning and slicing. Depending on the climate zone, the first harvest is 42-44 days after germination. Other characteristics:

  • the skin of the trough has large tubercles;
  • oval-cylindrical shape of the fruit;
  • white pubescence of medium density;
  • immediately after planting, no more than 3 ovaries are formed, but by the beginning of fruiting their number increases significantly;
  • up to 6 female flowers are formed in one node;
  • female flowering type;
  • medium-sized green leaves.

A ripe cucumber is no more than 9 cm long and weighs 95 g. Throughout the growing season, gardeners monitor soil moisture levels. Insufficient or excessive moisture will make the cucumber soft and tasteless.

Advantages

Flaws

Resistance to bacteriosis, to cucumber mosaic, to olive spot, to downy mildew

The variety is not suitable for cold climates – frequent and prolonged frosts will destroy the seedlings.

The fruits don't overgrow, so there's no need to rush harvesting.

Does not tolerate heat and drafts

Harvesting can be accelerated by artificial pollination.

Demanding in terms of humidity levels and the amount of nutrients added

The early-ripening hybrid variety "Bud' Zdorov F1" requires special attention. Gardeners monitor the weather forecast. If frost is imminent, the seedlings are covered. Once the frost has passed, the film is removed immediately.

Note!
Avoid overheating bushes, either under cover or outdoors. High temperatures weaken the immune system.

Preparing for planting using seedlings

The hybrid variety "Bud' Zdorov F1" is sensitive to the physical and chemical composition of the soil. Planting from seedlings (without transplants) is appropriate if the soil meets several parameters. The first and most important is the soil pH. It should be no less than 6 and no more than 7, otherwise germination will not occur. If the pH is slightly higher than recommended, slaked lime should be added to the soil. Digging and subsequent watering will normalize the situation.

The second indicator is a balanced nutrient composition. "Be Healthy F1" should not be planted in poor soil. If the plot has been used for more than 6-7 consecutive seasons, it is advisable to abandon planting. In a larger garden, a different location is chosen. The third indicator is that the vegetable responds immediately to temperature changes. Pre-hardening will reduce the likelihood of diseases and pests.

It is carried out in stages:

  • the purchased seed material is placed in a container with a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 2-3 hours;
  • the seeds are transferred to a container with a growth stimulator for 12 hours;
  • sowing is carried out in peat pots - they will simultaneously serve as temporary housing and a nutrient medium;

As soon as the first leaf appears on the stem, begin hardening off. Every day, the greenery is brought out onto the balcony for 10 minutes. Repeat this procedure for up to 5 days. Gradually exposing the plants to the elements will build sufficient immunity.

Note!
Transplantation to a permanent location is carried out as soon as 2-3 leaves appear on the stem, and the air temperature is + 15 C + 17 C.

Planting without seedlings

In regions with relatively stable weather conditions, where the risk of severe spring frosts is low, the "Bud' Zdorov F1" variety is planted using seedlings. There are two ways to obtain seed. The first is to use existing green space left over after harvest. This option saves money, but will not yield a good harvest. The vegetable crop practically does not pass on its characteristics to future generations.

The second option for obtaining seed is to purchase it from a gardening supply store. Regardless of the option chosen, the following steps are followed:

  • hole depth 10 cm;
  • planting pattern 60x15 cm;
  • the distance between holes is not less than 10 cm, and between rows – not less than 15 cm;
  • at the base of the hole, place a complex fertilizer in liquid form - the dosage is 2.5 tablespoons;
  • The seedlings are buried with soil level with the rest of the soil around them.

These recommendations apply to planting the "Bud' Zdorov F1" variety in both greenhouses and open ground. For the first 2-3 weeks, the gardener monitors the seedlings. If the bushes were growing vigorously in the greenhouse or open ground and then suddenly slow down, it's time to fertilize them immediately. The longer the gardener waits, the less likely they are to get a good harvest.

Agrotechnical recommendations

The first watering is done immediately after planting. It doesn't matter whether you use seedlings or direct-seeding. The gardener uses room-temperature water and lets it sit for 20-30 minutes. When watering, make sure the water falls strictly within the root zone. If any water gets on the leaves, it will negatively impact the health of the seedlings. Water should be applied in the morning or evening, when it's not too hot. After watering, cover the greenery with plastic film. Remove it after 2-3 days.

Note!
The planting density in open ground does not exceed 4 plants per 1 m², and in a greenhouse – 2 plants per 1 m². Avoid overcrowding.

Fertilizing: If liquid fertilizers were used at planting, traditional fertilizers can be used from the 12th day of plant growth. The "Bud' Zdorov F1" variety thrives on a combination of organic and mineral nutrients. It's best to apply fertilizer during watering. Adherence to the schedule is crucial. In temperate climates, apply fertilizer every 2-3 days. 2.5 kg is required per 1 m².

Other agricultural recommendations:

  • trellises are installed next to each bush, otherwise it will not be possible to shape the plant;
  • as soon as the top of the bush reaches the highest point of the trellis, it is pinched;
  • After each rain, the soil is loosened, otherwise it will become too dense, and the roots will be deprived of nutrition, oxygen and moisture.

Every day, the plantings are inspected and the soil moisture level is checked.

Reviews

Vitaly

Cucumbers are great for salads and pickling. A single plant yields 12.5-14 kg. I supply the seedlings with organic matter. It warms the soil and simultaneously enriches the greenery with nutrients. I use 1.5 kg of fertilizer per plant.

Growing "Bud' Zdorov F1" for sale is not possible. They can be stored for no more than 1.5-2 weeks. Use only for family consumption. In northern regions, the yield is approximately 9 kg per square meter.

Andrey

This vegetable requires a lot of sunlight. If it gets less than 10-12 hours of sun a day, you can't expect a good harvest. I only plant it in a greenhouse, using fluorescent lamps.

The early-ripening hybrid variety "Bud' Zdorov F1" was developed by Russian breeders. It is intended for cultivation in temperate climates. It does not require pollinating insects, making it suitable for both open ground and greenhouse cultivation. It has excellent flavor and a robust immune system. "Bud' Zdorov F1" is demanding in terms of temperature and soil moisture.
