Planting hydrangeas

News

Hydrangeas are beautiful flowering shrubs belonging to the Hydrangeaceae family. This plant can overwinter in the ground without additional cover. Hydrangeas begin blooming in July and delight gardeners with their colors until the end of October.

Landing conditions

Hydrangeas don't tolerate direct sunlight and bloom profusely only in shade. Excessive heat slows down hydrangea growth, resulting in small, angular blooms.

Once the hydrangea cuttings have been cut and cleared of unwanted leaves, the next step is planting them. However, while Graffiti hydrangea cuttings can be potted, directly assisting them with rooting will significantly increase the chances of a successful cutting.

There are different ways to think about how to root hydrangea cuttings:

First, you can place the hydrangea cuttings in water. Place the cuttings in a container of water, preferably glass or clear plastic, to see if roots appear at the base of the stems. Place the jar containing the cuttings in partial shade or some light, but always protected from direct sunlight. Change the water in the container every 24 hours to prevent mold, and wait for roots to appear, after which the cuttings are ready for planting.

Another option is to plant the cuttings in a pot or outdoors, but first help them with rooting hormone. You can buy it at any nursery or specialty flower shop, or even better, make your own eco-friendly rooting solution at home, which is even cheaper. The most popular ones are made from lentils, coffee, cinnamon, or soybeans. Keep in mind that rooting at home is very simple, but it takes several days, so you'll need to prepare in advance. Therefore, you can soak the prepared cuttings in the rooting mixture for half an hour and then plant them in the growing medium or soil. It's always best to use a pot with a hydrangea bed. Place the pot in a semi-shaded area and keep the growing medium moist, but not waterlogged.

In about three weeks, it should take root, meaning your planting was successful. Once the first buds appear, you can transplant it to its final location.
