How to make a cucumber and tomato salad for the winter
Wash the vegetables under running water. Cut the tomatoes into wedges and the cucumbers into slices. Peel the onion and cut into half rings.
Sterilize the jars using your preferred method, then boil the airtight lids in water for a few minutes. Place the chopped ingredients into the sterilized jars in layers: first the onion, then the tomato and cucumber slices, and continue until you reach the top.
Add peppercorns and dried bay leaf here.
Next, fill the jar with boiling water and wait 10 minutes.
Pour the water from the jars into a saucepan (add up to 2 liters) and boil it a second time, add table salt, two tablespoons of sugar and a portion of table vinegar and oil.
Pour the salad mixture into the jars again, using the prepared vegetable salad, and seal with steamed lids. Cover the jars upside down with a blanket and let them cool for 24 hours.
Store the prepared ingredients in a cellar or cool pantry. This appetizer is best served chilled.
