Advantages and disadvantages of the cucumber variety "Bogatyrskaya Sila f1"

Cucumbers

The hybrid cucumber "Bogatyrskaya Sila F1" is an early-ripening variety suitable for both greenhouse and open-field cultivation. It was bred by the Russian State Agrarian University - Moscow Agricultural Academy in the Russian Federation. A description of the variety is available in the Unified State Register. Growing it for commercial purposes and for personal consumption is no different. Care involves regular watering, fertilizing, and loosening the soil. The bushes don't require pollination, but as reviews show, this isn't a reason to forgo the help of beneficial insects. You can see a ripe fruit in the photo.

Characteristics of the hybrid variety

The tall plant grows to a height of 2 to 3 meters, with 3 to 9 ovaries per node. Female flowering predominates, ensuring high yields. One of the distinguishing features of the "Bogatyrskaya Sila F1" variety is its large number of gherkins and ovaries. The ripe, oval-cylindrical fruit ranges from 10 to 13 cm in length. Other characteristics:

  • fruit diameter 3-5 cm;
  • weight of a ripe cucumber up to 130 g;
  • dense crispy pulp inside;
  • there are no voids;
  • standard taste without bitterness;
  • partial-medium pubescence predominates;
  • planting density (greenhouse) 2.5 bushes per 1 m²;
  • planting density (open ground) up to 5 plants per 1 m²;
  • yield up to 20 kg from 1 bush;
  • bunch gherkin hybrid;
  • quickly takes root in a new place;
  • long growing season;
  • prompt harvesting of fresh fruits is required to speed up the emergence of new ones;
  • limited growth of shoots that do not take nutrients from the fruits;
  • large dark green leaves;
  • the harvested crop can be stored for up to 2 weeks without losing its marketable appearance;
  • ripe fruits do not tolerate transportation over long distances well;
  • powerful root system and main stem.

The Bogatyrskaya Sila F1 variety is suitable for slicing, salads, and canning. It is immune to olive spot and the virus. cucumber mosaic. It is at risk for powdery mildew.

Note!
Planting in unheated greenhouses is carried out from May 15 to 30, and in open ground from June 5 to 10. First, ensure that the soil temperature is above 14°C (55°F) and the risk of sudden frost has passed. In warmer climates, planting is carried out in mid-April to early May.

Preparing for planting by seed

Seeds can be purchased at a store or grown independently using last year's harvest. If you choose the latter option, proceed with caution. First, the seeds undergo a preventative treatment:

  1. Saturated salt solution: Pour 500-1000 ml of warm water into a container. Add 3-4 tablespoons of salt. Soak the seeds for 15-20 minutes. Only those that sink to the bottom are suitable for further use.
  2. A weak solution of potassium permanganate: Place the selected seeds at the bottom of a container. Pour a weak solution of potassium permanganate over them until they are covered. The procedure lasts 2-3 hours.
  3. Growth stimulator – any solution can be purchased at a gardening store. Duration of bathing: up to 2 hours.

The treated seeds are removed and placed on a piece of dry cloth. They are planted in peat pots, which will serve as a source of nutrient medium. Transplanting to a permanent location occurs as soon as two conditions are met: first, the temperature has stabilized, and second, at least two leaves have appeared.

Preparing for planting using seedlings

This method will appeal to those without much gardening experience. The bush has minimal requirements. First, the site must be evenly illuminated for 12 hours. If daylight hours are long, planting is done in a greenhouse with artificial lighting. The soil in the area must be loose and have a pH of 6 to 7. Other requirements:

  • the selected area must have drainage to prevent the possibility of stagnant water;
  • planting depth: 4 cm;
  • distance between rows: 15-20 cm;
  • sowing pattern: 50 x 50 cm.

For the first two weeks after planting, cover the seedlings with protective film. Apply a complex fertilizer daily. Apply 3-5 kg per square meter of soil.

Note!
The hybrid variety "Bogatyrskaya Sila F1" requires staking. A support with cells, each 15-20 cm wide, is installed next to each bush.

Agrotechnical work

Seedlings require regular, measured fertilization. Both excess and deficiency of nutrients will negatively impact the plant's immunity and the taste of its fruit. Fertilizer is added Apply with watering once every 6-7 days, morning or evening. Apply the mixture only to the roots for rapid absorption. Use room-temperature, settled water. If damaged or weakened bushes or branches are noticed, they should be removed immediately. Other recommendations:

  • from the 2nd week of bush development, a mixture of water and mineral fertilizers is added in a ratio of 1:2;
  • In regions with an unstable climate, organic matter is added to the soil, which decomposes and generates a sufficient amount of thermal energy;
  • the likelihood of fungal and viral diseases occurring increases only with excess moisture in the soil or a lack of nutrients;
  • Once a week, add any biologically active preparation to strengthen the root system at a rate of 400 g per 1 liter of water (consumption is ½ liter per 1 bush).

The ripened crop is harvested every two days. Delays will negatively impact the health of the plant.

Alice

This early-ripening variety is suitable for both greenhouses and open ground. I prefer to buy seeds from the store. Initially, I tried using last year's seeds. Experience showed that each subsequent generation receives less genetic information. Flavor and immunity are lost.

Active lateral shoot development is the basis for long-lasting fruiting. The "Bogatyrskaya Sila F1" variety's list of advantages continues with its resistance to drought and cold. The bushes are distinguished by good immunity.

I plant cucumbers in open ground in the Rostov region as soon as the soil temperature reaches +12°C. The optimal time for this is late April. I begin harvesting in June. Cucumbers have proven themselves to be excellent in salads and as a side dish. They can also be pickled.

The hybrid variety "Bogatyrskaya Sila F1" was developed by Russian breeders. This self-pollinating crop can be planted both in greenhouses and open ground. This early-ripening variety boasts strong immunity, rapid establishment, and high yields. Seedlings require minimal care. Regular watering and fertilizing, regular soil loosening, and routine inspection are sufficient.
