The Podmoskovnye Vechera F1 cucumber variety was developed by Russian scientists from the Manul seed company. The crop was registered in the state register in 2000. These cucumbers are approved for cultivation in home gardens, allotment plots, and farms. The authors of the hybrid are A.V. Borisov and O.N. Krylov. It can be cultivated in all regions of the Russian Federation in garden beds and greenhouses.
General characteristics and description
Podmoskovnye Vechera F1 is a first-generation hybrid. It ripens mid-early. The plant begins to bear fruit 42-45 days after the first shoots emerge. This vegetable is parthenocarpic. Flowers are predominantly female. The bushes grow vigorously, with the main stem growing indefinitely. The leaves are dark green, heart-shaped, covered with fine hairs, and have wavy edges. Up to three cucumbers are formed under a single leaf node.
The fruits are oval-cylindrical. The skin is slightly pubescent, loosely covered with large tubercles with white spines. Each cucumber weighs 80-110 g, and the average length is 12-14 cm. The cucumbers are dark green with barely noticeable vertical stripes. The flesh is light green, crisp, but not very juicy.
The cucumbers are not prone to cavities or bitterness. The marketable yield of cucumbers per square meter is 15-17 kg. In cooking, this variety is suitable for pickling and fresh consumption. The plant is genetically engineered to be highly tolerant of various climates and adaptable to a variety of soils.
Disease resistance
The hybrid crop has good immunity against cucumber mosaic virus, powdery mildew, and olive spot. Cucumbers are moderately resistant to downy mildew. To prevent downy mildew, use a combination of measures:
- In the fall, burn all vegetation in your garden. Fire will kill most of the spores and bacteria that infected the plants.
- Don't plant cucumbers in the same spot every year. The best predecessors are cabbage, peas, beans, lentils, garlic, and bell peppers.
- Before sowing the seeds, if they are not pelleted, soak them in a weak solution of potassium permanganate for 30 minutes.
- Before flowering, treat the bushes with stimulating products that will strengthen the plant's immunity. One of the best products is Baikal EM-1. The application rate is 3 liters per square meter. To prepare a solution for 10 liters, dissolve 10 ml of the product.
- To prevent the development of the disease, it is recommended to water with warm water throughout the growing season.
Advantages and disadvantages of the variety
Russian breeders have succeeded in developing a universal variety suitable for cultivation in all regions of Russia. Advantages of this crop:
- high yields, both in open and closed ground;
- good immunity to common cucumber diseases;
- short period of fruit ripening;
- shade tolerance;
- female type ovaries, barren flowers are practically not formed;
- long and uniform fruiting;
- parthenocarpy;
- excellent taste of cucumbers;
- high level of shelf life and transportability.
Disadvantages of cucumbers:
- average resistance to downy mildew;
- When watering plants, you need warm water.
Agricultural technology and care
In spring, cover the soil with plastic wrap to help it warm up faster. The optimal soil temperature for growing the "Podmoskovnye Vechera" variety should be at least 15°C. The planting site should be sunny or in partial shade. Before sowing, soak the seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate or boric acid (0.2 g of boric acid per 10 liters of water). To speed up germination, wet cheesecloth and leave the seeds there to germinate.
The originator recommends sowing seeds at a depth of 2-3 cm in late April or early May. Place 2-3 seeds per hole. The first shoots from the sprouted seeds should appear on the fourth day. Water the plants in the late evening. Use 5-10 liters of water per square meter before flowering, and 10-15 liters during fruiting and setting. The day after watering, loosen the soil.
Prevent weeds from growing. Grass attracts pests to the garden. Keep the beds clean. The vegetable bushes are vigorous and densely foliated. Remove side shoots to reduce stress on the plant. Train cucumbers into 2-3 stems. It is advisable to tie the vegetable crop to a trellis. Feed the plants At least twice. The first time, when 5 leaves appear, use Azofoska. The second time, during flowering, fertilize with a potassium salt-based nutrient solution – 15 g. superphosphate – 15 g and 10 liters of warm water. The consumption rate per bush is 1 liter.
Reviews from gardeners
Aelita Stepanovna, 36 years old, Kursk region
I planted the Podmoskovnye Vechera cucumber variety in open ground. My garden plot is very small, so I had to plant the cucumbers close to trees. This didn't affect fruiting at all. The plants grew vigorously. I sowed the seeds in early May, and began harvesting in mid-June. The fruits are tasty but not very juicy, perfect for canning. The vegetable crop remained disease-free throughout the season, only suffering from a whitefly infestation. I used Tanrek to control the pest.
Leonid Petrovich, 46 years old, Murmansk region
I grew the "Podmoskovnye Vechera" cucumber for two years in a row. The first year, I was very pleased with the yield and taste. The following year, I bought seeds, expecting a similar harvest, but it wasn't to be. The cucumbers grew completely different and began to get sick. Ultimately, no matter how hard I tried to save them, the plants wilted. I concluded that the seeds I bought at the market were of poor quality, a completely different variety. I recommend buying planting material only from reputable market sellers or specialized seed stores.
