In the Moscow region, gardeners enjoy very good yields of sweet peppers. Thanks to breeders, there's a wide selection of varieties and hybrids, so you can always find a pepper to suit your needs.
There's a wide variety of peppers, including varieties with various fruit shapes (cubes, cones, and prisms), colors, and thin-walled varieties with thick pericarps. However, when choosing, it's important to consider the specifics of the region and remember that varieties that perform well in the south are unlikely to perform well in the Moscow region.
Conditions for choosing sweet peppers
Gardeners in the Moscow region are advised to choose early-ripening (or mid-season) peppers, which are resilient to adverse conditions. Summer in the Moscow region is often challenging for gardeners, with fluctuating temperatures and the possibility of early frosts.
The optimal choice here would be varieties that are not afraid of slight temperature drops, early ripening, with compact bushes.
It is necessary to pay attention to the manufacturers' recommendations:
- what region is the hybrid or variety intended for;
- cultivation conditions (open ground, greenhouse);
- fruit ripening time;
- purpose.
Early-ripening peppers require 90 to 100 days to produce fruit (the dates are based on technical maturity), while mid-season varieties require 120 days. Growing seedlings is essential, so even in the Moscow region, you can reap a good harvest.
Early varieties and hybrids of sweet pepper
Winnie the Pooh
Bred in the early 1980s, this sweet pepper variety remains popular today. Its advantages include early ripening, excellent flavor, compact size, and excellent shelf life. It's no coincidence that Winnie-the-Pooh is the choice of not only gardeners but also farm owners.
The bush is short, only 30-35 cm tall, with sparse foliage. Fruits weigh about 50 grams (maximum weight up to 70 grams) and grow in clusters. This variety produces well in dense plantings and can be grown both in greenhouses and in open-ground beds.
Orange miracle
Another early pepper that has proven itself excellent in the Moscow region is Orange Miracle. It's perfect for those who prefer diced peppers with thick pericarp.
This early (up to 100 days) variety is productive and fairly resistant to many viral diseases. The cube-shaped fruits weigh up to 200-250 grams, with a bright orange, firm skin. The flavor is pleasant, and the skins are juicy and tender.

The Atlantic F1 pepper, bred by Dutch breeders, also produces good yields in this region. This very early sweet pepper (80-90 days) produces elongated, cube-shaped fruits. When fully ripe, the cube-shaped pods turn bright red and weigh up to 450 grams.
The Atlantic variety is distinguished not only by its considerable weight but also by its excellent taste. Its fruit walls are approximately 8-10 mm thick. This hybrid is suitable for canning, making lecho, and salads.

The plants are compact, reaching 70 cm in height. It is recommended to grow this variety under plastic covers; Czardas also grows well in open ground. A single plant can produce up to 16-17 fruits. This pepper is ideal for small gardens, as it allows for dense planting (up to 8-10 plants per square meter).
Pinocchio F1
The Buratino pepper is also suitable for canning and fresh consumption. This hybrid is characterized by its early ripening period (90 days) and low maintenance. It is recommended for growing in open ground and plastic greenhouses.
It has performed well in the Moscow region due to its tolerance of temperature fluctuations. The plant grows up to 100 cm tall, with limited branching. The fruits are conical, up to 16-17 cm long, and bright red when fully ripe.

Reviews of growing sweet peppers in the Moscow region
Irina, Moscow region, Dmitrovsky district
I always plant up to ten different varieties of peppers, including thick-walled and thin-walled ones. Winnie-the-Pooh never fails, always producing excellent crops, albeit not as sweet, but at least early. I value this variety for its consistency, because sometimes other peppers fail, but this "short one" never does. I pick the peppers green; they never turn red on the vine, but they ripen quickly at home.
Svetlana, Balashikha
My mother-in-law is very wary of foreign varieties and hybrids. But when she tried growing the Atlantic hybrid pepper, she changed her mind. She still doesn't grow any other peppers, but she always buys them in advance. The peppers are delicious, and we grow them in a special greenhouse. We plant 10 plants; that's usually the number of seeds in a packet, and that's how many sprout. There are no losses. It always produces a harvest, and we've been growing it for 5-6 years now, and we're very happy.
