Five Houseplants You Should Throw Out Immediately

Flowers

Houseplants can be dangerous to humans and carry negative energy. Some indoor plants are not recommended for indoor use. Many species release harmful toxins into the air, causing allergic reactions, while others are dangerous due to their toxic sap. Such plants should be discarded or isolated without regret.

Top 5 Houseplants You Should Throw Out Immediately

You can protect yourself and your loved ones from potential health problems by knowing the names of dangerous flower varieties. The most harmful houseplants are those with unusual and vibrant appearances.

Oleander

Oleander, or nereid, is a beautiful, evergreen shrub beloved by many gardeners. It can cause serious poisoning. Even brief inhalation of the flowers' aroma can lead to intoxication, causing nausea, headache, and shortness of breath.

Poisoning from the shrub is especially dangerous if its particles are ingested. Vomiting, abdominal pain, rapid heartbeat, shortness of breath, tinnitus, hallucinations, and fainting are the consequences of severe intoxication. If a child eats even the smallest piece of a leaf, complications can be irreversible. A still-fragile body will not be able to cope with the poison on its own and will require medical attention.

Dieffenbachia

This houseplant is prized by gardeners for its large, vibrant leaves. However, the flower can be harmful to health. Dieffenbachia sap is highly toxic. If it comes into contact with the skin, it can cause burning, redness, and even pain where the plant comes into contact.

Attention!
In some regions, the poisonous liquid is used to make pesticides against rodents and harmful insects.

Although the plant is an excellent air purifier, placing it in living rooms is not recommended. The best places for dieffenbachia are offices, industrial spaces, and greenhouses.

Alocasia

Alocasia (trefoil, weather plant) is a houseplant that holds a special place in floral arrangements. Not only is its sap toxic, but so are the vapors it releases when repotting. Alocasia leaves contain the explosive compound corrosive sublimate, a reactive mercury compound.

Sap in the eyes can cause blindness. All work with trefoil should be done while wearing personal protective equipment (gloves, goggles). Cyanides, found in the leaves, can damage the central nervous system. Excess exposure can lead to respiratory failure. Therefore, under no circumstances should trefoils be placed indoors.

Croton

Croton, or codiaeum, is a highly ornamental plant. The most toxic part is its sap. Contact with skin can cause severe irritation and swelling. But this is far from the most serious danger. If the plant sap enters the bloodstream through an open wound or abrasion, severe poisoning will occur at best, and death at worst.

Pets and children should be strictly kept away from the plant. All handling of the croton should be done with gloves. Hands should then be thoroughly washed with soap. It is advisable to avoid growing it indoors altogether.

Azalea

Rhododendron, or azalea, is a beautiful flowering plant. Its leaves, stems, and flowers contain a toxic substance called andromedotoxin, a glycoside. Its toxicity stems from the fact that it disrupts cellular receptors, producing an intoxicating and paralyzing effect.

The first signs of andromedotoxin poisoning include increased salivation, sweating, vomiting, dizziness, weakness, cramps in the limbs and around the mouth, and low blood pressure. The scent of the flower is contraindicated for sensitive individuals, as it can cause various allergic reactions.
