How to make plum and apple jam for the winter

First, wash the fruit and let it drain completely. Cut the apples in half to make it easier to core them. Cut the prepared apples into thin slices.

cut the apples

We break the plums in half and remove all the pits. The fruits are ready for jam.

peel the plums

Place the fruit in a deep saucepan: plum halves and apple slices. Don't chop them too finely, as they will shrink a bit during cooking.

put the fruit in a saucepan

Sprinkle with sugar and leave for 5-6 hours, until the fruit releases its juices. You can gently shake the pan to mix the apples and plums with the sugar. Do not stir with a spoon to avoid crushing them.

sprinkle with sugar

Once the juice has appeared, reduce heat to low and simmer for 40 minutes. The fruit will soften, and the jam will gradually thicken. Stir several times, as the sugar may burn to the bottom of the pan. Stir only a couple of times, as soft fruit can lose its shape.

cook jam

We pour the jam into steamed glass jars. It looks absolutely delicious, and its aroma will fill your home. The plums' burgundy color has also rubbed off on the apples, resulting in a very rich, vibrant shade.

fill the jars

We screw the lids onto the jars and wrap them properly with a "fur coat"—a regular warm blanket. After cooling, the jam goes into the pantry. In winter, it will complement family teatime.
