Vitamin-rich grape and plum compote – easy to make, no need to sterilize
The season for ripe fruits and berries is coming to an end, which means it's time to prepare jams, preserves, compotes, and other types of preserves for the winter. Today we'll prepare a healthy and flavorful grape and plum compote for the winter. This recipe makes a 3-liter jar. It's prepared without sterilization, making the preparation process quick and easy.
A large jar is very convenient, especially if you have a large family. And when guests come over, it's even more convenient. You can uncork the compote and pour it into beautiful decanters. This makes a wonderful drink for any feast.
All the ingredients used in this compote are natural, making it much tastier than store-bought juices and sodas. It doesn't use much sugar, so it's not overly sweet—just the right amount, making it a favorite for everyone.
For this recipe, use plums and grapes—they make a wonderful duo; this combination makes the compote tastier than any store-bought juice. Especially since you rarely find grapes and plums in a grocery store.
Ingredients:
- blue grapes – 150 g;
- plums – 150 g;
- sugar – 200 g;
- water – 2.5-2.7 l.
How to make grape and plum compote
Wash the plums and grapes, removing any stems or twigs. This will make a fruit compote. Since we're using blue grapes and plums, the compote will be a rich color. You can also use pink grapes; the drink will also be vibrant. Any plums will work; we used Hungarian plums, which are aromatic and delicious.
Rinse a 3-liter jar beforehand and sterilize it using your preferred method. Place all the berries in the bottom and pour boiling water over them. Cover and let sit for 20 minutes. The plums and grapes will release their juices.
Pour the compote into a large saucepan; you've got a beautiful drink. Add sugar and bring to a boil again.
Pour the compote back into the jar; now you get a rich color.
Roll up the jar with an iron lid, insulate it with a “fur coat” and leave it like this to cool overnight.
In the morning, you can store the compote in a dark pantry or basement. It's best to chill the compote before drinking. Enjoy!
