Characteristics and features of growing cucumber "Dolomite f1"

Cucumbers

Dolomite F1 was developed by Dutch breeders Nunhems BV. Its characteristics include ease of care, ease of growing conditions, and versatility. The variety is suitable for planting in any region of the Russian Federation. It was added to the state register in 2010 and was developed by Andreas Gertz.

Characteristic

The Dolomite hybrid is an early-ripening variety, whose green fruits can be harvested 40 days after the shoots appear.

The fruits of the crop:

  • cylindrical shape;
  • with slight ribbing;
  • covered with small green stripes of whitish color;
  • have slightly pronounced spotting;
  • have a thin, finely bumpy skin and fairly dense pubescence;
  • with white spikes;
  • with dense pulp without bitterness;
  • grow to a length of no more than 12 cm and a diameter of up to 3.8 cm;
  • weigh no more than 100 g.

The bushes of the hybrid are indeterminate, open, medium-sized, medium-climbing, with foliage of medium size and green color.

Please note!
The ovaries are cluster-type, with up to eight ovaries forming at each node. Flowering is predominantly female.

Positive qualities include:

  • early ripening period;
  • taste properties;
  • unpretentiousness;
  • high yield level of up to 5 kg per 1 m2;
  • areas of application;
  • in marketable condition;
  • long storage period;
  • resistance to transportation;
  • resistance to low temperatures and sudden changes;
  • disease resistance;
  • the ability to harvest the fruits when they have grown to the size of pickles.

The variety has no disadvantages.

Dolomite is not susceptible to attacks by cucumber mosaic virus, olive spot, or powdery mildew. To prevent the development of other diseases, it is advisable to take preventative measures. In particular, treat the seeds and plants according to the instructions for the selected products. The use of chemicals is prohibited during flowering and at the beginning of fruiting.

Agricultural technology

To ensure a bountiful and delicious harvest, you must first purchase high-quality seeds. Even though Dolomite is a hybrid, the seeds are disinfected with a manganese solution before planting and then dipped in a special solution to stimulate growth.

Attention!
This crop can be grown in an open area or in a greenhouse, but it is better to choose the seedling method.

In a greenhouse, it is permissible to plant seeds directly into the garden bed, but only when the soil is already well warmed up.

The seedlings are grown as follows:

  1. Select containers, such as containers or peat pots.
  2. They purchase or prepare the soil themselves, which must be disinfected, thoroughly fertilized and light.
  3. Plant in holes 15-20 mm deep.

Peat pots are ideal because they can be planted in the garden bed along with the seedlings, eliminating stress on the plants. After the first shoots appear, the seedlings are fed with either chicken manure or manure. They are watering every 5 days and only with warm water.

As soon as 5 true leaves grow, they can be transplanted to the bed, which was previously:

  • loosen;
  • disinfected using potassium permanganate;
  • fertilize with nitrogen, wood ash and organic matter.
Fertilize with nitrogen

After replanting, the bushes are watered generously with warm water. The acceptable and recommended seedling spacing is 0.5 x 0.4 m. For 1 m2 It is advisable to plant no more than 4 plants. Planting them more densely will result in shading.

In the garden, the hybrid requires watering once every three days, but check the soil regularly. If it's well-moistened or there's been rain, the interval can be longer. Avoid allowing puddles to form under the stems and foliage. Water the plant carefully, avoiding water from splashing onto the leaves. Watering should be done in the evening.

Recommendation!
If mold appears on the soil surface, reduce watering and carefully inspect the stem. This may indicate root rot due to improper watering or using cold water.

Regular loosening is essential. This should be done at least once a week to improve root aeration. This will promote growth and development and help eliminate garden pests that infest cucumber roots.

Regular mulching is a way to prevent fungal and bacterial diseases. Weeding once every two weeks is sufficient. If weeds are not removed, they will not only destroy young shoots and fragile roots but also act as disease carriers. Weeds harbor a large number of pests that can seriously damage cucumbers. To protect plants from diseases to which they lack immunity, it is recommended to spray the plants with medicinal products.

Numerous studies by breeders have shown that 3-4 additional feedings are sufficient throughout the season:

  1. 14 days after planting the seeds. Fertilize with potassium-nitrogen fertilizer.
  2. During the early flowering period. Fertilize with potassium-nitrogen and mineral fertilizers, supplemented with magnesium and boron.
  3. During the initial fruiting period. The composition and proportions should be the same as in the previous option, but the nitrogen component should be limited.
  4. In the second half of the fruiting period, this will increase its duration and abundance. Phosphorus is added to the previously described composition.
Nitrogen fertilizer

If the soil under the cucumber is too poor, it can be supplemented with a complex fertilizer. To stimulate the growth of cucumber vines and increase the number of fruits, it's important to carefully follow the timing of fertilizer application.

Every gardener should remember that no crop will grow without fertilizer, but an excess of nutrients can also negatively impact their growth and development. To determine whether a plant is overfertilized or, conversely, in need of additional fertilizer, consider the following:

  1. Nitrogen deficiency. Symptoms: cucumbers have light-colored skin and an irregular shape. The fruits are cone-shaped, with a thickened stalk and tapering toward the flower stalk. To remedy this, you can feed the plants with urea, and then add ammonium nitrate a week later. It's important to follow the proportions indicated on the packaging; otherwise, the ovaries may fall off.
  2. In midsummer, a significant potassium deficiency can be observed. This can be identified by a yellow tint on the cucumber skin and their pear-shaped appearance. They will be thin near the stem and thick near the flower. The leaves will begin to lighten and curl. In this case, foliar feeding with 2 teaspoons of potassium salt is necessary, and after a few days, the thoroughly watered soil is sprinkled with potassium sulfate.

There are situations when Dolomite requires several micronutrients at once. This is determined by the fact that the shoots simultaneously turn yellow, but are also covered with green leaves of the most unusual shapes. In this case, nitrophoska should be applied at a rate of 2 tablespoons per liter of water, sprayed on the foliage.

Please note!
The second treatment should be done after a week and a half, but not sooner. Failure to follow these recommendations will result in leaf burns and the death of the plant.

To create optimal conditions for the growth and development of cucumbers in a greenhouse, you need to feed them fractionally, that is, regularly, but in small portions.

Reviews

The Dolomite F1 variety is a favorite among gardeners. It's prized for its abundant yield and ease of care.

Oksana, 42 years old

I've always grown vegetables from seeds I collected myself. This year, a neighbor recommended the Dolomite hybrid. Based on my experience, I can say it's a unique variety. It produces a delicious and plentiful harvest, and that's what makes it so special. I highly recommend it.

Inna, 52 years old

I've been growing the Dolomite cucumber for several years now. I'm very pleased with its qualities and properties. I recommend it to everyone I know. It really can be grown in a variety of conditions. I live in the northern region, and winter here lasts much longer than summer. This makes my gardening more challenging, but the hybrid is resilient to various weather conditions.

Lisa, 33 years old

Dolomite is the cucumber variety I've always chosen, and will continue to choose, because it's easy to grow and incredibly tasty. It's perfect for salads, appetizers, and pickling. It can be used for anything you want. The key is to avoid overdoing it with seasonings, as they alone can ruin its flavor.

Dolomite is popular among gardeners. The hybrid offers exceptional advantages and fully meets gardeners' needs. Its high yield pleases those who sell vegetables, which also withstand long transportation. This variety is suitable for both beginner and experienced gardeners.
