Favorable days for gardeners and vegetable growers in August 2020

Lunar sowing calendar for gardeners and vegetable growers for 2025

Even experienced gardeners will find the lunar sowing calendar for August 2020 helpful when planning their gardening schedule for next year. Gardeners and vegetable growers are sometimes plagued by doubts about the timing of planting, watering, or pruning. To be sure of their decisions, many consult a chart of favorable days for sowing and caring for plants based on the lunar phases. The sowing calendar recommends specific dates for each type of agricultural work.

Moon phases in August

All tables of lucky and unlucky dates are based on the fact that the Moon, as it transitions from one phase to another, has varying effects on the biological processes within garden crops. It can strengthen plants and increase their future yield, or, conversely, harm the health of the plants and leave the plot's owners without tasty fruit. Earth's satellite passes through four phases: waxing, waning, full, and new.

The time for sowing, transplanting seedlings to the site, or caring for existing plantings is chosen according to the following principles:

  1. The waxing moon activates the flow of sap in the above-ground portion of green crops, meaning a plant planted at this time will direct all its energy to this portion. Therefore, this period is a good time to plant vegetables whose fruits ripen above the soil surface (for example, tomatoes and eggplants).
  2. When the sun wanes, sap flow in the root system, on the contrary, is more active. Beets, potatoes, carrots, and other crops whose fruits are located in the ground are planted during this period. Fertilizing the soil during this phase is also recommended: this will allow the soil to better absorb all the micronutrients.
  3. The new and full moon phases are considered unfavorable for sowing seeds, as the moon is weak during these periods. Caring for crops during the new and full moons is also considered futile.

In August 2020, the lunar phases fall on the following dates:

  • growth – 1st, 2nd, 20th-31st;
  • waning – August 4-18;
  • full moon – 3rd;
  • New moon – August 19.

If a chart of favorable days isn't available, gardeners try to avoid the full and new moon phases. However, it's still preferable to follow the advice of a gardener's calendar, as it takes into account not only the position of the Earth's moon. It also selects favorable days in August based on the influence of the 12 zodiac signs.

When to carry out the work

If all gardening work is carried out according to the lunar calendar, the plants in the plot will be healthier and produce a rich, high-quality harvest during the season. Favorable planting days in August 2020 for various crops are presented in the table below.

Important!
When choosing a day, weather conditions in the region are taken into account. For example, Moscow and the Urals will sow crops on different dates.

Planting new fruit trees and shrubs will yield the best results if scheduled for August 2, 6, 7, 20-25. For harvesting, the best dates are the 2, 11, 23, and 31 of the month. For gardeners, the lunar calendar is useful because it shows the best dates for planting and replanting indoor flowers. The timing varies for different types of flowers:

  1. One-year-olds will take root well in a new location if transplanted on August 6-9, 13, 16-18.
  2. Biennial or perennial flowers will feel better if they are moved to a new location on the 4th, 5th, 16th-18th, 21st-23rd, or 31st.
  3. For plants with tubers or bulbs, good dates are August 1, 4, 5, 14-18, 27, 28, and 31.

Regardless of the plant chosen for planting, the best date is one that falls in the middle of the favorable period. This eliminates the risk of getting the timing wrong.

Unfavorable days

If a date is missing from the tables above, this does not necessarily mean a complete ban on agricultural activities during these periods. They merely indicate the most favorable days for the following August. However, there are dates for which it is not recommended to plan planting, watering, pruning, or pest control. In addition to the full moon and new moon, days dominated by "weak" zodiac signs (such as Leo or Aquarius) are also avoided.

In August, planting new crops, harvesting, or tending to plants is recommended on any day except August 3, 10-12, 19, and 26. Those who don't want to completely free themselves from gardening chores on these dates should remove dead or infected leaves and shoots and weed the beds. More extensive work is unacceptable: at best, it will be useless, and at worst, it will cause significant harm.

In August, many vegetable crops are harvested (eggplant, onions, corn, tomatoes), and some winter crops are planted (carrots, greens, peas, beets, new fruit trees). The entire harvested crop is stored in the shade, then sorted and stored in a cool place.

Interesting!
