Quick Bulgarian Apple Pie
We make Bulgarian apple pie at home using simple and affordable ingredients. For this step-by-step recipe with photos, it's best to choose two varieties of apples – half sweet and sour and half sweet – and be sure to have them juicy! Some of the wheat flour can be replaced with wheat bran or quick-cooking oatmeal – it will also be delicious.
The main feature of this recipe is that you don’t need to knead the dough!
It will take 45 minutes to prepare, and the ingredients listed in the recipe will make 8-10 servings.
Ingredients:
- apples – 1 kg;
- semolina – 200 g;
- granulated sugar – 160 g;
- wheat flour – 180 g;
- baking powder – 2 teaspoons;
- honey – 35 g;
- milk – 260 ml;
- ground cinnamon, butter.
How to bake a Bulgarian pie
Mix the dry ingredients – pour wheat flour into a bowl, add semolina and baking powder, and mix.
Add fine white sugar, mix the ingredients thoroughly again, weigh, and divide the contents of the bowl into three equal parts. By the way, you can substitute brown sugar for the white sugar, which will give the pie a caramelized crust.
Grease a non-stick baking pan (not a springform pan!) with butter and dust with flour. Pour 1/3 of the dry mixture into the pan and shake until it forms an even layer.
Cut the apples, remove the cores, and grate them coarsely. Place half of the grated apples in a baking dish.
Melt the honey in a double boiler, pour half the honey over the apples, and sprinkle with ground cinnamon. By the way, if the honey is very thick, you can mix it with a few tablespoons of warm milk.
At this point, sprinkle the apples with the second portion of the dry mixture. Sprinkle evenly, gently shaking to gently distribute the mixture into the apple layer.
Now add the remaining apples, drizzle them with honey again and sprinkle with ground cinnamon.
Sprinkle the remaining dry mixture over the pie, pierce the pie frequently with a knife or stick, then pour in milk or cream.
Preheat the oven to 170 degrees Celsius.
Place the pan in a preheated oven and bake for 40-45 minutes.
Cool in the pan to room temperature and cut into portions. Enjoy.
