Vermicompost is an organic substance created by earthworms. Their activity improves the soil's composition. The more worms there are, the better its composition. Vermicompost can be used without restrictions. It can be used to fertilize houseplants and increase the yield of garden soil. Earthworms process compost produced by cattle or organic waste that is susceptible to decay.
Biohumus – what is it?
In the production of vermicompost, special Californian or Prospector breed worms are used.
The main properties of vermicompost:
- a biological product that does not pose a danger to ornamental and fruit crops;
- The composition includes compounds of humic and mineral fertilizers.
Biohumus has a multi-component composition:
- organic matter is combined with biological microelements;
- vitamins, enzymes and hormones necessary for the plant;
- essential acids.
Vermicompost contains more micronutrients than manure and is neutral (pH 6.8-7.4). Small mounds of fresh soil are often seen in the garden. This is humus, produced by worms. The worms filter the soil through themselves, thereby processing the main organic matter (manure, grass, and leaves).

They absorb the beneficial properties from the natural humus supplement. It can be concluded that worms are the main producers of vermicompost. The soil they process is rich in microelements, amino acids, and natural antibiotics.
Dry vermicompost strengthens plants and improves their immunity. Plants develop stable resistance to diseases.
Effect on plants
Vermicompost has a positive effect on the germination and subsequent growth of plants. Beneficial elements are retained in vermicompost for a long time; they remain in a simple form and are readily absorbed.
Humus contains growth stimulants for seedlings. Soils containing humus reduce nitrate and radionuclide levels.
The effect of vermicompost on plants:
- the fertilizer does not contain harmful substances (bacteria, larvae, nitrates);
- the immune system of plants improves, they look healthier, and tolerate drought and frost better;
- increases seed germination;
- the plant takes root better, which is important when replanting;
- the amount of harvest increases;
- The taste is improved and the fruit ripening period is shortened.
Vermicompost, unlike fertilizers containing chemical elements, offers a broader range of benefits. Mineral fertilizers that aren't absorbed by plants can remain in the soil for a long time. The soil is ecologically healthy, which benefits the fruits. Enriched fruits have a beneficial effect on human health. Humic acids reduce the risk of cancer in the human body.
Instructions for use of fertilizer
Humus has versatile uses. It can be used for garden and vegetable crops, and as a soil for flower seedlings. Humus can also be used to treat seed material.
Fertilizer can be used in a garden at any time. It's best to add it in the spring when tilling the soil. In the fall, humus is used when preparing the garden for winter.
There are 2 types of humus:
- dry granules;
- liquid form.
The granules are dug into the soil. The liquid solution is used for watering plants.
Liquid humus is preferable. It is absorbed into the soil better and more quickly. The fertilizer concentration is several times higher than dry humus. Use this fertilizer in garden plots and for indoor plants. It is preferable for use in open ground:
- as a top dressing;
- for soaking seeds;
- for spraying plants;
- to prepare the soil before planting.
Liquid biohumus – instructions for use:
- To prepare the solution, mix 1 part solution and 10 parts water.
- To increase the concentration, the dose can be increased.

How to use vermicompost:
- Use a liquid solution for soaking seeds before planting. Dilute the liquid vermicompost at a rate of 1 ml per glass of water.
- As a root dressing.
- Apply to seedlings and water them (dilute 5 ml in 1 liter of cold water) and water 2-3 times a week.
- To fertilize potatoes, use a ready-made solution (20 ml per 1 liter of cold water). Apply at planting time, adding it to each potato hole.
You can treat the tubers before planting.
It's best to apply liquid fertilizer before planting berry bushes, adding the solution to the hole before planting. For more precise application, follow the included instructions.
Dry fertilizer must be applied correctly. Here are the application rates for vermicompost:
- for potatoes at the rate of 200 g per 1 sq.m;
- for strawberries – 150 grams per 1 sq.m;
- for tomatoes – 100 grams per 1 sq.m;
- when planting fruit trees - up to 10 kg per hole.
The granules should be mixed with the soil and watered thoroughly. On average, the recommended application rate is 0.5 kg per square meter. Vermicompost is a safe fertilizer, and it's virtually impossible to miscalculate application rates.
How to make vermicompost
It's easy to make at home, saving you a little time and a decent amount of money. Here's how:
- Grind vegetable peelings, fruit peels and seeds in a blender.
- If the organic fertilizer contains a lot of moisture, dry it out by adding sawdust. Add Siyanie-3 to the resulting mixture and stir. Let it sit.
- Place the mixture in a container with sawdust. Store at a temperature no higher than 24°C for about 7-10 days. The mixture should smell like sauerkraut; a rotten smell may indicate high humidity.
- Mix the mixture with the soil containing the worms. Close the container to prevent the worms from escaping. Once the worms have processed the mixture, add a new portion of waste. This will cause all the worms to congregate in one place. This soil should be transferred to a new container.
- The resulting fertilizer is ready for use.
Humus is a safe product. Manufacturers release it in polyethylene bags to retain moisture. The dry granules are non-flammable and fireproof. using vermicompost Wear gloves and wash your hands with soap after use. If swallowed, rinse with plenty of water.

Gardeners often share their reviews to exchange information and experiences. Here are a few:
Olga, 32 years old
I'm passionate about organic farming. I often use vermicompost, an organic fertilizer. I apply it to all the crops in my garden. The plants respond well to it, grow faster, bloom well, and fruiting begins more quickly.
Ivan, 60 years old
I've been using vermicompost in my garden for several years now. It's not cheap. You can make vermicompost at home, but that's too much trouble for me. Seedlings and plants grow better, and the quality and quantity of the harvest improves. I use the fertilizer for all my plants. It can also be used for shrubs and young seedlings.
Maria, 41 years old
I love flowers. I grow them both in my garden and indoors. One day, they started getting sick, so I started learning about vermicompost and its benefits. Now I add it to all my flowers. The plants receive complete nutrition, grow better, become fuller, and bloom longer. I recommend it to gardeners and flower lovers.
Vermicompost is a universal fertilizer suitable for all types of plants. It's completely safe to use, and its benefits are enormous.
