This article is strictly for summer residents, gardeners, flower growers, and vegetable growers in the Urals. We'll examine the lunar calendar for the region for 2024, covering planting and everything related to them. You'll be offered a list of favorable days for planting, as well as other tasks, and we'll also highlight unfavorable dates and, traditionally, neutral ones. Using this information, you'll be 100% sure you've completed everything correctly, and the rest is easy.
Climate of the region
The Ural climate varies from north to south, from west to east, and from the foothills to the summits. From north to south, temperatures and the length of the summer season increase. From west to east, precipitation decreases. From the foothills, temperatures decrease, and the natural zones change. There is a generally accepted division of the Urals:
- Southern.
- Average.
- Northern.
Therefore, the climate of the regions will differ significantly.
If you have a dacha in the north, it's important to take these factors into account and approach gardening with the utmost care. After all, frost or increased humidity can alter growing conditions.
Thanks to the mountains, the soil there is quite rocky, which further complicates gardening. Therefore, when gardening and vegetable growing, it's essential to take special care to ensure a satisfying harvest at the end of the season.
Lunar calendar
Long-term experience has shown that the phases of the Moon influence plant development. Since ancient times, people have learned to "use" the moon for their own purposes, including vegetable gardening. Many know that the Moon is a powerful catalyst for all life on Earth, and if you plant, replant, fertilize, weed, and irrigate crops on favorable dates, you can ultimately increase your yield without much effort.
How do the phases of the moon affect crop growth?
- When the moon is waxing, most of the water remains at the top of the rhizome. Therefore, young plants that require sufficient moisture should be planted during the waxing phase.
- Full Moon. It's generally best to postpone any work, as surprising changes are occurring that could have the most unexpected impact on any activity.
- Increased watering is beneficial during the waning moon, as the water actively drains into the root system. This is also the best time for planting tubers and root vegetables.
- New Moon. Same as the Full Moon: avoid any kind of work and you'll be happy.
There are also zodiac signs, which vegetable growers pay close attention to when planting and caring for their crops. It's no secret that regardless of the phase of Earth's satellite, the planet is always in a specific constellation, which also influences the development of crops. After all, not every zodiac sign leads to full development and proper establishment.
Constellations according to their influence on plant crops can be divided into:
- Favorable. Scorpio, Cancer, Pisces.
- Neutral: Libra, Taurus, Capricorn, and Sagittarius.
- Unfavorable: Aquarius, Gemini, Virgo, Leo, and Aries.
By following these recommendations, you can guarantee a bountiful harvest or maximum decorative value. Favorable days for the Urals are presented in a table. Lunar calendar for planting fruits, vegetables, flowers, and other ornamental crops (both seedlings and direct planting):

Adviсe
In spring, the sun, although rare even in the Southern Urals, is effective. Gardeners have paint, whitewash, and bandages at their disposal. But the ideal preventative measure is proper placement of bushes and trees when planting.
It would be good to “arrange” them on the eastern side of the building, so that during the most dangerous hours for the bark (at midday) the trunks are covered in shade.
Maintenance of a summer cottage includes:
- Enriching the garden with fertile soil. This is especially important in areas with rock deposits, known as kurums, which are the result of years of erosion by water, wind, and other factors. Before planting garden beds in such areas, it's important to ensure they're well-stocked with fertile soil.
- Wind protection. Fences, trees planted along the perimeter, and even the construction of buildings on the dacha's property can provide protection during windy weather. For example, the entire plot can be divided into zones with berry perennials, which will also protect smaller plants. Vegetable growers also use hedge barriers to prevent frost from the mountain gusts from freezing the beds. Furthermore, in the Urals, shrub crops such as currants, grapes, and rose hips are covered for the winter, using film or agrofibre.
- Planting mature seedlings. They can be sown and grown in advance indoors in pots. Pricking out is required. When the seedlings have 3-4 leaves, they should be transplanted into a more enriched substrate, pinching the central root to promote effective development of the entire rhizome. This is also helpful. harden off seedlingsTo ensure that the plant is less susceptible to disease and more vigorous establishment after transplanting into the garden beds, the seedlings are brought out to the balcony or garden when the spring evenings are still cool (up to +5°C). OC) and keep them there for a couple of hours.
The use of heated beds is recommended. They should be prepared in advance. This is best done in autumn. The process is simple:
- The area in the garden is fenced off with boards.
- Grass is poured inside and compacted.
- Then sprinkle with branches; you can use sawdust and small branches after pruning.
- Next comes a layer of cardboard packaging material, unnecessary paper or newspaper material.
- All this is thoroughly tamped down.
- A layer of humus, compost or rotted manure is thrown on top; this will prevent weeds from getting into the garden.
- Then they sprinkle everything with mown grass.
- Weeds should be added to the area until the end of the summer season. Water weekly to allow the organic matter to rot.
All you need to do is cover it with a 100 mm layer of soil and plant. As the soil decomposes, heat is released into the soil, which stimulates plant growth and provides protection from sudden temperature fluctuations, including night frosts. It's a good idea to set up greenhouses, which will not only protect your plants from wind and frost but also save on watering.
Moreover, this is a unique chance to be the first to harvest. It's important to consider the needs of each individual crop in the garden. Some plants shouldn't be watered with cold water, otherwise they will get sick. Therefore, if there's a spring or well on the property, it's best to have a watering hole or barrel where the spring water can be slightly warmed.
Since the Ural region is not only subject to temperature fluctuations but also to strong winds, many unwanted seeds are blown into gardens. Weed control is essential. Large supermarkets offer a wide selection of fertilizers that will help you harvest despite inclement weather or the local rocky soil.
