Ingredients:

  • cabbage – ¼ of a large head;
  • sausages – 5-6 pcs.;
  • onions – ½ a large onion;
  • tomato paste – 2 heaped tablespoons;
  • salt – to taste;
  • vegetable oil for frying;
  • black peppercorns – 7 pcs.;
  • sugar – 1 tbsp without a slide;
  • garlic – 2-3 cloves;
  • bay leaf - a few leaves

How to cook stewed cabbage with sausages

Place a frying pan on the stove and turn the heat to medium—the pan just needs to be hot at the beginning of cooking. Pour at least 3 tablespoons of vegetable oil into the bottom of the pan. While it's heating, peel the onion and slice it into half rings. If you're using one small onion, you can slice it into whole rings. Transfer the onion pieces to the pan and fry until translucent, stirring occasionally.

Meanwhile, chop the cabbage on a cutting board and crush it well with your hands. This "trick" will break the cabbage pieces and release their juices, resulting in a more tender dish.

Don't over-fry the onion: after all, it still needs to fry along with the cabbage. So, as soon as the onion becomes translucent, add the cabbage, stir, and continue frying the two ingredients together.

Place the tomato paste in a small bowl or cup, add 200 ml of water, and stir until smooth. Pour this sauce into the pan with the cabbage. Season with salt, add sugar, and stir. Cover the pan and simmer for 15 minutes, stirring frequently.

After 15 minutes, remove the lid from the pan. Press the garlic cloves through a press directly into the cabbage, along with the bay leaf and black peppercorns. Stir the cabbage with the seasonings, add more water if needed, and cover the pan again.

Remove the film from the raw sausages and cut them into 5-7 mm thick circles.

Add the sausage pieces to the cabbage, stir, cover again and simmer everything together for another 10 minutes.
