Oven-baked potatoes with cheese, mayonnaise and garlic

Country kitchen

Oven-baked potatoes with cheese, mayonnaise, and garlic are so delicious they'll grace any holiday table, and make a great option for a filling, delicious dinner on weekdays.

This recipe, complete with photos, is very simple: cut raw potatoes into rounds, wedges, or chunks, mix with a dressing of mayonnaise, garlic, and spices, place in a baking dish, and sprinkle with grated cheese. Place in a hot oven and bake until done.

It's best to choose cheese with at least 50% fat so it not only melts completely but also forms a soft, golden crust. You can add a little grainy mustard to the mayonnaise sauce, and for those who like spicy side dishes, add ground chili or plenty of black pepper.

Ingredients:

  • potato tubers – 8-10 pcs;
  • onions – 2 pcs;
  • thick mayonnaise – 4 tbsp;
  • garlic – 5-6 cloves;
  • salt – to taste;
  • hard cheese – 200 g;
  • turmeric, paprika, black pepper - 0.5 tsp each;
  • mustard seeds – 2 tsp.

How to make baked potatoes with cheese

Peel the potatoes, wash the tubers and cut into circles about 2 cm thick.

peel and chop the potatoes

Adding onions is optional, but they make the dish tastier and juicier. Cut the onions in half, then slice into half-rings of any thickness.

chop the onion

For the sauce, mix thick mayonnaise, grainy mustard, turmeric, paprika or ground chili, and black pepper. If any of the suggested spices don't work, substitute others or adjust your own.

mix mayonnaise and spices

After mixing mayonnaise, mustard and spices, grate garlic cloves into the sauce.

grate the garlic

Place the potatoes in a deep bowl, add salt, pour over the sauce and mix thoroughly so that the sauce reaches each slice.

mix potatoes with sauce

Preheat the oven to 200 degrees Celsius. Grease the baking dish with lard or vegetable oil. Place half the potatoes in the dish. Scatter the onion over the potatoes.

place onions on a layer of potatoes

Cover the onions with the remaining potatoes and pour the sauce over them. Grate the cheese coarsely. Sprinkle the top layer of potatoes with a thick layer of cheese shavings. Cover with a lid or tightly wrap with foil.

sprinkle with cheese

Place the potatoes in the oven, setting the pan on the middle rack. Bake for about an hour, until tender. To test, open the pan and pierce the bottom of the potatoes with a fork or knife. If the knife goes in easily, the potatoes are done. If there are any hard pieces, continue cooking until done. Serve the baked potatoes as a main course or as a side dish with meat, chicken, or fish. Enjoy!
