Orchid Kornevin: Application for Root Growth

Orchid

Not every gardener can grow a luxurious orchid at home. This exotic plant requires the most comfortable conditions possible and special root care. Kornevin, a product used to promote root growth, improve survival, and boost the plant's immunity, can help.

Properties and composition of the drug

Kornevin is a domestically produced product manufactured by Agrosintez LLC. It is a structural analogue of natural auxin, a biologically active phytohormone that promotes the formation of new root cells.

The active ingredient is (indol-4-yl)butyric acid (IBA), which, once in the soil, is converted into a phytohormone. The product also contains:

  • Potassium – strengthens the cell membrane, promotes turgor (elasticity) of plant leaves, and makes the orchid more attractive;
  • Phosphorus is an element necessary for the synthesis of plant tissues. It is essential as a component in the production of sucrose, starch, and cellulose, which are important for root growth;
  • manganese;
  • molybdenum.

For full development and growth, orchids require various microelements, and Kornevin fully satisfies this need.

The product is known as a growth stimulant, accelerating callus formation in shoots with weak roots. It is also used to stimulate flower stalks in orchids, resulting in a larger number of offspring. The active ingredient concentration is 5 g/kg.

Phytohormone is produced as a finely dispersed wettable powder. Color: white or pinkish. Packaging:

  • sealed polyethylene bags of 3, 4, 5, 10, 30 grams (for use on houseplants);
  • kraft bags with polyethylene liners, 25 kg each.

When dissolved in water, it forms a stable suspension.

The influence of Kornevin on orchids

Orchids grow in special substrates, the main component of which is bark (pine, spruce, and oak). Maintaining the correct substrate moisture levels in city apartments is difficult, so the plants' root systems suffer from over- or under-watering. Treatments with this product help to cure and revive diseased plants and strengthen healthy specimens.

Stimulation of root system growth

Kornevin promotes the formation and growth of new root shoots. Callus growths (the "living" cells) stimulate root initiation and growth. Thanks to this product, gardeners are reviving orchids that have lost most of their roots due to improper growing conditions.

Stimulation of flower stalk growth

Sometimes, a demanding orchid refuses to bloom. Applying a hormonal treatment stimulates plant tissue to actively divide. The plant develops new shoots, and metabolism and photosynthesis are accelerated. All this ultimately leads to the formation of flower stalks and intensive bud production.

Improving seed germination

Orchids are rarely grown from seed, but when necessary to improve seed germination, Kornevin is also used. The product is added to the substrate, pre-mixed with activated carbon powder. This promotes the activation of the embryos in the seeds, promotes rapid germination, and eliminates the risk of overwatering or drying out the substrate.

Pros and cons of the drug

Kornevin solutions prepared for irrigation, as well as the dry powder, are stable. The advantages of using the product include:

  • stimulation of the growth of new root cells;
  • strengthening plant roots;
  • increasing the germination rate of seed material;
  • active formation of full-fledged flower cuttings;
  • building up healthy green plant mass;
  • activation of the growth of flower stalks, which leads to lush and abundant flowering of orchids.

Phytohormone is inexpensive and comes in convenient packaging. Its action, when followed correctly, is gentle, long-lasting, and effective. Since the mechanism of action of IMC is similar to a mild root irritation—a microburn—it's important to strictly adhere to the dosage. Otherwise, instead of stimulating the root system, the plant will rot and die.

Kornevin for orchids: instructions

It is recommended to use Kornevin for orchids of any type – lithophytes, epiphytes.

Note!
Kornevin is especially effective for growing roots in Phalaenopsis and Dendrobiums.

Preparation of solution and dosage

Prepare the solution in glass or ceramic containers. Follow precise dosages, diluting 1 gram of powder per liter.

It is recommended to calculate the product consumption in advance and dilute the required amount. For example, for a standard 3-gram sachet, use three liters of water.

Water requirements

To prepare the solutions, use clean, settled water. It's best to use non-chlorinated water. Meltwater or rainwater are the best options. The water temperature should be between 30-35 degrees Celsius. When placing the plant in the container, ensure the water level remains constant and add water as needed.

Wet method

The traditional method of stimulating root growth is to place the plant in a prepared solution and then in a moistened substrate.

The procedure is simple:

  • the bottom leaf of the prepared cutting is carefully cut off;
  • the cut is dried (you can use filter paper);
  • keep the cuttings in the air for 3-4 hours;
  • immerse in the solution (leaf bud remains on top) for 15 minutes;
  • While the solution is being processed, 4-6 tablets of activated carbon are ground into powder;
  • take out the orchid and carefully dip its roots into charcoal powder (for disinfection and healing);
  • The plants are transferred to a container with substrate or placed in a dish with water for rooting.

Dry processing

This rooting method is usually used if cuttings fail to root in the solution. The plant is carefully inspected (preferably with a magnifying glass), and if no callus or root buds are detected at the base, dry pollination is performed.

Stages:

  • dip the roots in Kornevin powder;
  • after this, they are dipped into powder made from crushed activated carbon tablets;
  • Place in a container with water until roots appear or immediately into a moist substrate for rooting.

It is also recommended to add a small amount of crushed activated or charcoal to the substrate when planting.

Orchid resuscitation

Kornevin is a quick fix for sick orchids. Using a formula containing phytohormones, a wilted plant with rotted roots can be revived and its roots can grow.

Main stages:

  • remove orchids from the substrate;
  • carefully clean and wash the roots;
  • cut off diseased, dry, rotten leaves;
  • inspect the roots and remove all rotten parts, cutting off about a centimeter of healthy tissue (so that the cut is free of signs of decay);
  • if the roots are severely damaged, cut them off completely, leaving only the base of the orchid and a couple of healthy fresh leaves;
  • keep the flower for 3-4 hours in a warm place, protected from direct sunlight (to dry the cuts);
  • soak the plant (roots or bottom) in the prepared solution of the diluted product for 8-10 hours;
  • Afterwards, the orchid is taken out and placed in warm water. First, activated carbon is dissolved in a container (one tablet per liter);
  • The plant is kept in this solution for 1.5-2.5 months until roots appear.

Add a little water regularly to the container to compensate for the evaporated solution. For best growth, place the orchid in a warm, bright location and cover it with a light cloth. Humidify the air around the flower 2-3 times a day. When roots appear, remove the cloth and repot the plant in a container with potting soil. Follow the usual care after repotting.

Features of the use of Kornevin

Many people wonder whether it's possible to water a blooming orchid with Kornevin. This herbal preparation is used to stimulate the growth of strong shoots and flower stalks, meaning it's applied before flowering.

During the period when the plant is forming buds and producing flowers, there is no need to water or apply phytohormones. Excessive stimulation leads to burning and the shedding of buds and petals.

Kornevin should not be used as a foliar spray. It is designed to promote root formation and callus growth, so it is not suitable for foliar application.

Compatibility of Kornevin with other preparations and fertilizers

The manufacturer states that the herbal preparation is compatible with most agrochemicals and plant protection products. It can be used in conjunction with fertilizers and other supplements.

To test if you have any doubts about the use of combined mixtures, prepare a small amount of the working solution. Add equal amounts of the substances to water and observe the changes. If a precipitate forms, the products are incompatible. If no precipitate forms, the products are suitable for combined use.

Overdose

When added to solutions, phytohormone acts as an irritant to rooting plants. If the active ingredient is applied in excess, the delicate roots of orchids are burned. Sap flow is disrupted, and root formation ceases. This leads to root rot and ultimately, the death of the orchid.

Note!
Exceeding the concentration of Kornevin solution is detrimental not only to orchids, but also to any other plants.

Shelf life of the prepared solution

The prepared growth stimulator solution is used within 10-12 hours. The diluted product cannot be stored, so it is important to accurately calculate the required volumes and prepare only the required amount of solution.

Precautionary measures

The drug is classified as a Class III hazard substance, meaning it's considered low-toxic. However, everyone must follow basic working rules and safety precautions:

  • the powder is volatile, so it is better to work with it on a loggia or balcony, where it is easier to provide ventilation;
  • solutions and dry processing are carried out with gloves;
  • Dry powder is stored in hermetically sealed bags away from children and animals.
