A delicious filling for potato and onion pies
Potatoes are an ideal choice for pie filling. They're easy to find and quite inexpensive. This budget-friendly potato pie filling is a popular choice for many. To make it even more delicious, add some fried onions. The filling for potato and onion pies is delicious and flavorful.
You can use any variety of potato for the filling, but be sure to boil it until soft. You can boil the potato in its skin or peeled. For convenience, we suggest peeling it first and then boiling.
Ingredients:
- potatoes – 500 grams;
- onion (large) – 1 pc.;
- salt – 0.5 tbsp;
- vegetable oil – 30-40 grams.
How to make potato pie filling
Wash the peeled potatoes and place them in a saucepan. Cover with cold water and place on the stove over high heat. As soon as the water begins to boil, add salt and reduce the heat to a simmer. Cover and cook until tender. You can easily test the potatoes for doneness by piercing them with a knife or fork.
While the potatoes are boiling, peel the onion, then rinse and cut into small cubes.
Fry the onion in vegetable oil until golden and toasted.
Carefully drain the water from the potatoes.
Mash with a potato masher until smooth.
Mix the mashed potatoes with the fried onions. Pour the oil and onions into the mashed potatoes. The oil will make the potatoes softer and more tender. Taste the filling, adding a little salt and ground black pepper if desired.
Cool the finished filling slightly and can be used for filling.
