Cucumber "Vyuga f1": characteristics and yield of the hybrid

Cucumbers

Vyuga F1 cucumbers are great fresh and in salads, but when preserved for long periods, the gherkins become soft and lose flavor. These cucumbers produce neat, medium-sized fruits with a thin skin that allows salt to pass through easily. According to the cultivation method, the variety can be grown both in greenhouses, hotbeds, and in open ground.

Characteristics of the plant and its main indicators

Greenhouse yields are always higher, but cucumbers grown in the ground taste better. Even the same variety, grown in a greenhouse and in a garden without shelter, will have slightly different flavors. Cucumbers are warm-loving crops, so for best fruiting, it's best to use a combination of cultivation methods.

Note!
Since the Vyuga F1 hybrid tolerates cold well, it can be planted throughout the country.

In the south, the hybrid variety is planted in open ground. In the temperate zone, it is grown under plastic cover, and in the north, in heated greenhouses. Vyuga F1 is included in the State Register.

Characteristic features of the variety:

  1. Mature bushes are of medium height, typically reaching no more than 700-800 mm in height.
  2. The leaves are medium-sized and dark green.
  3. The central branch has unlimited growth, but the lateral shoots grow slowly and weakly.
  4. The inflorescences on the bushes are mostly female.
  5. The stem is creeping, medium length, and heavily branched.

The plant culture belongs to parthenocarpic speciesThe Vyuga hybrid is self-pollinating, meaning it doesn't require treatment of its inflorescences with pollinating insects (bees or bumblebees). This hybrid variety is early maturing, with a growing season of only 37-38 days. Experienced vegetable growers recommend cultivating the hybrid using seedlings in regions with low temperatures. In southern regions, the seeds are sown directly into the ground.

cucumber variety Vyuga f1Three to five ovaries form per leaf axil. The hybrid's fruits have the following description:

  1. Gherkins in the shape of a cylinder.
  2. The skin is dense.
  3. The weight of one cucumber is 70-80 grams.
  4. The length can be 80 mm, but more often, as soon as the gherkin reaches 50-60 mm, it begins to develop in width.
  5. The fruits are green in color, but the top of the gherkin is slightly lighter.
  6. The fruit is beautiful, 25–28 mm in diameter, tuberculate, the tubercles are sparse, black-spined, with marbling, blurred whitish stripes reaching up to 1/3 of the fruit.

The fruit has an excellent flavor. Gherkins have a sweet yet spicy taste. They are juicy, crisp, and aromatic.

The most reliable and productive varieties today are F1 hybrid varieties. They are high-yielding, early-ripening, and disease-resistant. The fruits are not bitter. Vyuga is usually more productive than other parthenocarpic varieties (those with predominantly female flowers). Hybrid yields are approximately 15 kilograms per square meter.2.

Experienced vegetable growers who developed the Vyuga variety took pains to improve its qualities. Gardeners cite the following advantages of the hybrid:

  1. High resistance to damage by such common pathologies as powdery mildew or olive spot.
  2. Obtaining a good harvest even under unfavorable growing conditions.
  3. The versatility of this variety makes the cucumbers excellent for fresh consumption and for preserves.
  4. The early ripening period makes it possible to taste the fruits of your labors already at the beginning of the summer season.
  5. Aesthetic appearance, which is important for canning.

The excellent taste of the cucumber hybrid Vyuga F1 is also noteworthy. The only drawback of this hybrid variety is that the fruits often develop hollows.

Agricultural technology of cultivation

In the north, it's best to grow from seedlings. The hybrid doesn't like being transplanted, so it's best to sow the seeds in special peat pots. You can buy ready-made soil or prepare it yourself. To do this, mix regular garden soil with:

To kill parasites and eliminate dangerous pathogens from the soil, it must be disinfected. The soil should be heated for several hours in the oven or microwave. You can also soak it with boiling water or a mild solution of potassium permanganate. Seeds should be purchased from a specialized store. Hybrid cucumbers do not allow for self-harvesting of seeds from cucumbers.

Note!
Plant the seeds in prepared soil to a depth of 15-20 mm. For active sprouting, it is necessary to create an optimal temperature regime of +20-22 OWITH.

During seedling growth, it's important to monitor the air temperature—it shouldn't fall below 15°C. Seedlings should be planted in the garden only after the last frost has passed.

Proper cultivation of seedlings

This hybrid variety can be grown both from seedlings and from seeds directly into the ground. Since cucumbers are popular in cold climates, seedlings are often used. Before sowing, the seeds:

  • disinfect in a weak solution of potassium permanganate;
  • left for several days in special growth stimulants.

The seeds are then tested for germination by placing them in a salt solution. Any seeds that float to the surface are useless for planting. The seeds are placed in containers with the prepared substrate. The planted material is sprayed with warm water and covered with a thin plastic film. When germinating the seeds, it's important to monitor the room temperature, ensuring it stays at least 15°C. OC. As soon as the seeds sprout, the PE is removed, and the container with the seedlings is sent to a sunny place.

The seedlings are transferred to unprotected soil once the frost has passed. In warmer climates, it is permissible to plant the seeds directly into unprotected soil. The main thing is to ensure that the temperature does not fall below 14-16°C. OWITH.

Fertilizing cucumbers

If the soil is enriched with nitrogen, all stages of plant growth will proceed successfully, which positively impacts fruiting. Yellowing foliage and slower growth indicate a nitrogen deficiency. List of nitrogen-containing fertilizers:

  1. Bird droppings.
  2. Ammonium nitrate.
  3. Liquid manure.
  4. Compost.

If a vegetable grower wants to buy ready-made nitrogen fertilizers, they should be aware that some contain nitrates (harmful toxins). These accumulate in the soil, are absorbed by plants, and enter the human body through the vegetables.

It's important to check the fertilizer's composition. Avoid products containing nitrate nitrogen.

Organic fertilizers have a positive effect on fruiting. Fermented bird droppings are an excellent fertilizer. To prepare them, you need:

  • dilute the droppings with water;
  • keep it in a warm place, at a temperature of more than +20 OWITH.

This mixture should be poured into the dug soil and loosened slightly with a rake. The Vyuga F1 responds well to potassium sulfate. This will not only increase the yield of the crop but also strengthen its immune system. Potassium sulfate is used to nourish the rhizomes. At the beginning of fruit production, the feeding should be increased. The amount of potassium added to the soil depends on the quality of the substrate and the condition of the seedlings.

Note!
Excess potassium has a negative impact on cucumber crops. Therefore, it's necessary to test the application on several cucumber plants and monitor their condition for several days. If they aren't affected, you can apply the fertilizer to the entire planting.

A sign of calcium deficiency is the drying up of open cucumber flowers and ovaries. Cucumbers are deformed and immediately turn yellow, losing their flavor. Fertilize before the flowering period begins. Eggshells contain a lot of calcium. They should be crushed and sprinkled onto the soil with the resulting flour.

Care instructions

To ensure full maturation of the hybrid variety, regular watering is necessary. Apply only warm water in the evening or morning, once every three days. Water between the rows, avoiding the rhizomes and leaves. This will help prevent root rot. Afterward, it's important to loosen the soil. This will help:

  • prevent the formation of an earth crust on the surface of the garden;
  • enrich the root system of plant crops with air.

Loosening the soil must be done with extreme caution to avoid damaging the root system. Fertilize the plant with commercial fertilizers containing nitrogen. After planting in their permanent location, over-fertilizing the Vyuga F1 seedlings with nitrogen is not recommended. Doing so will lead to increased foliage growth, which will negatively impact the development of the cucumbers and the overall yield.

Attention!
Organic fertilizers are applied once every 7 days, mineral preparations – once every 14 days.

To prevent many diseases and simplify care for the hybrid, the bushes should be tied to a trellis. This will help save space in the garden or dacha. It's also essential to keep weeds out of the plantings, as they rob the cucumbers of nutrients from the soil.

Many vegetable growers note that the cucumber hybrid Vyuga F1 loses its flavor when preserved. Therefore, preserves should be eaten as quickly as possible or used for summer dishes, salads, sliced vegetables, and holiday table decorations. Following basic care recommendations for this hybrid will ensure a bountiful harvest with minimal time and effort. This variety boasts uniform ripening of cucumbers and is easy to care for.

Diseases and pests

The hybrid variety Vyuga F1 is highly resistant to the most dangerous cucumber diseases. It is resistant to both powdery mildew and downy mildew, as well as many other diseases. However, it's important to remember that only proper care can guarantee healthy and nutritious cucumbers.

It is better to carry out prevention using store-bought and home remedies.

Reviews

Gardeners love the Vyuga F1 variety. They report that it impresses with its abundant and consistent yield and the rapid ripening of its gherkins.

Elizaveta Viktorovna, Kemerovo

I've been planting this cucumber in a warm bed in my greenhouse for many years. This new-generation parthenocarpic hybrid variety combines limited growth with prolific fruiting—a single bush produces up to 15 identical cucumbers at a time. Its 100% parthenocarpy rate guarantees fruiting in almost any conditions. I like this hybrid variety because it's extremely early maturing. The plant is medium-sized with very little lateral growth (especially at the bottom). The flower type is exclusively female. Ovaries are in clusters, producing 4–5 cucumbers. Cucumbers are 60–80 mm long, cylindrical, and look beautiful in jars. It's great for salads; my family really likes it.

Galina Matveevna, Perm

I planted this hybrid for the first time and liked its disease resistance. This hybrid variety belongs to the cucumber family, which is suitable for growing in the garden. I personally grew it in plastic greenhouses without shoring it up or shaping it. I used it for barrel pickling (very tasty). I also liked how easy it is to grow. It requires minimal care and is extremely resistant to adverse weather conditions.

Lana Sergeevna, Tver

This hybrid variety ripens very early; I was already harvesting delicious gherkins 40 days after emergence. The fruit continues to ripen until frost. The cucumber has a very dense skin, is crunchy, and flavorful, making it ideal for canning.

The hybrid cucumber Vyuga F1 is extremely easy to grow. Caring for the plants is simple and enjoyable for both beginners and experienced gardeners.
