Ingredients:
- puff pastry without yeast – 500 grams;
- white cabbage – 350 grams;
- carrots – 80 grams;
- onions – 80 grams;
- egg yolk for greasing – 1 pc.;
- vegetable oil – for frying;
- tomato paste – 1 tbsp;
- salt, pepper – to taste.
How to make cabbage pie with puff pastry
Chop the cabbage into strips and place in a frying pan with hot oil. Use any frying oil. Lightly fry the cabbage until soft; it will shrink as it frys.
Once the cabbage has just softened, add the diced onion and grated carrot to the pan. Mix everything together and simmer for a couple of minutes. Season with salt and pepper to taste.
Pour in a little water, add a spoonful of tomato paste, and simmer briefly, covered. Remove the pan from the heat and let the cabbage cool, as the filling should be cold.
Divide the dough into two pieces and cut them to fit the prepared baking pan. We used a round pan, and we lined the bottom with dough. Use your hands to spread the dough out.
Spread the filling over the dough, smoothing it out on all sides. You can add more filling to make the pie juicier and more filling.
Cover the pie with the remaining dough and pinch all the edges.
Decorate the pie with the remaining dough, brush with egg yolk, and bake. Bake at 180-190°C for exactly 25 minutes. It turns out fluffy and golden brown—a real treat.
Let the pie cool completely, remove from the pan and cut into portions.
Bon appétit!
