Puff pastry with cherry filling - it doesn't get any tastier
Delicious, beautiful cherry puff pastries are very easy to make at home using ready-made puff pastry filled with frozen cherries.
However, there are a few subtleties worth keeping in mind to ensure your baked goods turn out well. This step-by-step recipe with photos will explain them in detail.
Ingredients:
- puff yeast dough – 450 g;
- frozen cherries – 300 g;
- sugar – 3-4 tablespoons;
- starch – 2 teaspoons;
- water – 1 tsp;
- chicken egg yolk – 1 pc;
- powdered sugar – 3-4 tablespoons.
How to make puff pastry from ready-made dough
Remove the cherries from the freezer and place them in a colander to catch the juices as they defrost. Once the cherries are defrosted, add the sugar and stir.
We put them back in a colander for about 10 minutes.
Thaw the dough by placing it on a lightly floured work surface and covering it with plastic wrap. Let the dough defrost at room temperature for 30-40 minutes.
Place the thawed dough on a floured surface and roll it out to a thickness of 2-3 mm. Roll the rolling pin in only one direction to avoid disturbing the dough's flaky texture. Cut the rolled dough into 10x10 cm squares.
Sprinkle the previously prepared cherries with starch and mix.
Place a layer of filling on each square of dough. Place the filling on one half, leaving 1-1.5 cm from the edges.
Lightly beat the yolk with water. Brush the edges of the dough with the yolk.
Cover the dough with the remaining half of the dough and carefully seal the edges, releasing any air. To ensure a more secure seal, run a fork along all edges, pressing firmly.
Place the puff pastry on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a baking mat.
Using a pastry brush, brush the top of the layers with yolk.
Place the baking sheet with the puff pastry in an oven preheated to 200 degrees Celsius and bake for 15-20 minutes. Baking time may vary slightly depending on your oven. The puff pastry will have expanded significantly and become a beautiful golden color.
Transfer the puff pastry to a plate and cool to room temperature.
The cooled puff pastries can be sprinkled with powdered sugar.
