Among the many varieties of pepper, large, thick-walled varieties are particularly popular with gardeners. These include those with a pericarp (the shell that surrounds the seeds and forms the fruit's shape) thicker than 6 mm. They are planted both in open ground and in greenhouses. Each method can be rated individually, which is what we'll do in this article. All you have to do is choose the best of the best.

Basic rules of cultivation
To sow seeds of thick-walled varieties, prepare a light, loose substrate consisting of 2 parts humus, 2 parts peat, and 1 part washed river sand. It is recommended to steam this mixture in the oven to eliminate fungal diseases and weeds. You can use a general-purpose store-bought vegetable mix with sand added (0.5 parts sand to 3 parts mix).
Selected seeds should be treated with a fungicide (Fitosporin-M, Vitaros, or Maxim) or soaked for 20 minutes in a pink solution of potassium permanganate. After soaking in the potassium permanganate solution, rinse, place in a flat container between a couple of layers of damp cloth, and place in a warm place with a temperature of at least 25°C. After 1-2 weeks, the seeds will begin to sprout.

When sowing, maintain a distance of 1.5-2 cm between seeds. A substrate layer of no more than 1-1.5 cm thick, which should be lightly compacted, is acceptable.
Watering should be careful. Excessive evaporation will prevent the creation of a mini-greenhouse. The optimal temperature is 25°C. Once seedlings emerge, provide daytime temperatures of 26-28°C and nighttime temperatures of 15-17°C. They require a bright location (supplemental lighting will also be needed in February and March) and moderate watering.
After 3-4 weeks, when 1-2 true leaves appear, the seedlings can be transplanted into 100-150 ml pots. Protect the seedlings from direct sunlight and prevent the soil from cooling (at least +13°C).
Plant when the first buds are forming, when the average daily temperature reaches 15-17°C. Plant to the plant's usual depth (as in its original container). Different varieties should be spaced as far apart as possible. Care involves regular watering, loosening the soil, fertilizing, and, if the peppers are tall, staking.
