Characteristics and description of the tomato "Bagheera"

Tomatoes

The Bagheera tomato was developed by domestic breeders for Russia's temperate climate. This variety can be grown both outdoors and in greenhouses; it's resistant to temperature fluctuations and won't waste your time pinching out side shoots or dealing with pests.

This early-ripening hybrid is ideal for many novice and advanced gardeners due to its high yield, resistance to many adverse conditions, and ease of maintenance. It stores well for up to a month and is suitable for long-distance transport. It's suitable for any dish.

Characteristics and description

"Bagheera" is a hybrid with an early ripening period of approximately 60-100 days, with a compact, determinate habit that saves space in the garden. Mature fruits can ripen in whole clusters of 5-6 tomatoes. The yield per square meter is approximately 10 kg of tomatoes, which are distinguished by their resistance to cold and disease.

The fruits themselves are small, weighing only 100–250 g. They are round in shape with ribbing at the stalk, red in color, juicy, dense and not watery, sweet in taste, with thin and dense skin.

Note! The fruits on the lower branches are larger.

Advantages

Taking into account all the opinions and observations of summer residents, we can highlight the following list of advantages:

  • Short ripening period;
  • Pleasant taste and aroma;
  • Saving space in the garden bed thanks to compact bushes;
  • Resistant to reduced watering and cold weather;
  • Not susceptible to diseases and pests.

Features of cultivation and care

In general, these tomatoes are easy to care for. Even the most basic care is key to the plant's well-being.

  • Loosen the soil every 4 days. Try not to damage the roots.
  • If you decide to tie up the bushes, do not use coarse fabrics or wire, otherwise, over time, they may cut the stems.
  • Plants feel good in soils where cabbage, carrots, and zucchini were previously planted.

Growing seedlings

  • The most convenient method of growing is from seedlings. Seeds don't require any special treatment; hybrids purchased in stores have already undergone the necessary treatment before being sold.
  • For seedlings, a mixture of humus and peat in a 50/50 ratio is suitable.
  • Sow seeds to a depth of no more than 2 cm. Add ash to the holes to prevent pests.
  • Newly planted seedlings should be misted with warm water until the first shoots emerge. Young seedlings should be kept warm and planted at a rate of no more than 6 plants per square meter.
  • And the appearance of the first leaves already indicates that it is time to apply liquid mineral fertilizer every couple of weeks.
  • Also, for more confident development, seedlings should be gradually hardened off over a longer period. An hour is sufficient initially, but once they've strengthened and are ready for planting outdoors, they can be left there for the entire day.

Transplanting seedlings into the ground

  • Planting in open beds should begin in early June or late May. Cover with plastic sheeting for the first few days.
  • Planting should be done with a distance of 50–65 cm between bushes. Support is not required.
  • Although the hybrid is not susceptible to diseases, for prevention it is recommended to treat the soil with a hot solution of potassium permanganate.
  • It has been noted that Bagheera is not prone to pest attacks; however, it is advisable to spray young bushes with non-toxic preparations, a weak solution of potassium permanganate or ammonia.

Watering

  • A suitable method of watering is drip irrigation, especially warm, settled water.
  • Monitor watering. Avoid overwatering and prevent soil cracking. For seedlings, 1–1.5 liters is sufficient; during flowering, up to 20–25 liters per square meter; during fruit set, 35–40 liters per square meter; and during ripening, 60–70 liters per square meter.
  • If you've started harvesting tomatoes, reduce watering. Otherwise, the fruit may crack and become diseased.
  • Do not pour water on the green mass.

Top dressing

For more uniform fruit ripening, adequate fertilizing is essential. Many gardeners implement this procedure in stages.

The first stage is the application of fertilizers (8 g of nitrate + 20 g of superphosphate and potassium salt) every 14–16 days per 1 sq. m.

The second stage - after 2.5 - 3 weeks, adding phosphorus and potassium fertilizers.

Reviews from those who grew tomatoes

VasilisaMy family loves tomatoes, so we grow many different varieties. We also plant Bagheera. It's easy to grow. When the season ends, the unripe fruits ripen on their own. I mulch the soil with straw and humus. I've gained 8.5 kg per square meter. The seedlings love the light; I tried to keep them in bright spots. They're good for any dish. I'm happy with them, and I'll buy them again.

PeterThe weather in our area wasn't great, but despite this, Bagheera pleased us with a good harvest. The tomatoes are beautiful and tasty, and they look great in the jar for winter preservation. They lasted for about 20 days fresh without spoiling. Even though the summer was very rainy, to prevent the bushes from developing rot, I treat the stems with 1% Bordeaux mixture. I plant them in areas with good ventilation. And they've never been sick or infested by insects.
