Characteristics and description of the tomato "Darling of Fortune"

Tomatoes

You need to pamper yourself every day. Even the smallest things can make your day bright and enjoyable. For example, a newly bred tomato, "Darling of Fate," might delight an amateur or professional gardener.

Characteristics and description of the variety

"Darling of Fate" is an early-ripening variety, with tomato plants growing 70-80 centimeters tall. This tomato is recommended for outdoor cultivation. The plant has medium foliage. The ovary is cluster-type, with each cluster producing 4-6 tomatoes.

The fruits are heavy, weighing 200-250 grams. Their elongated oval shape resembles a sweet pepper. The skin is red, and may have a spot near the stem. The flesh is tender, with a pleasant aftertaste. A single bush yields 2-2.5 kg of fruit.

Tomatoes are widely used in cooking. They can be processed into tomato paste and juice, and added to pizza, main courses, and stews. Seeds are sown 50-60 days before transplanting into open ground. Three to five plants are placed per square meter. The plant exhibits resistance to late blight. Tomatoes can be grown in open ground in the southern and central regions of Russia, and in greenhouses in the north.

Advantages and disadvantages of the tomato "Darling of Fortune"

The tomato "Darling of Fortune" has the following advantages:

  • delicate and pleasant taste of fruits;
  • size of tomatoes;
  • can be widely used in cooking and can be processed into various tomato products;
  • tomatoes can withstand long-distance transportation;
  • The seeds germinate together and the fruits ripen quickly.

Disadvantages of the variety:

  • The bushes are not stable enough and may need to be tied to a support.

Characteristic features of growing tomatoes in a garden bed

  • Sow seeds for seedlings in late winter or early spring (February, March). Fertilize and loosen the soil beforehand. To enrich ordinary soil with nutrients, add peat and rotted sawdust. You'll need a bucket of peat and sawdust per square meter of greenhouse space. This substrate should be mixed with the topsoil.

To prevent plant diseases, the soil can be disinfected with potassium permanganate or a special antifungal agent, such as Fitosporin. This protection against bacteria will allow young plants to grow strong and resilient.

  • Before sowing, seeds should be soaked in a growth stimulant to increase germination and disease resistance of young seedlings. If a growth stimulant is not available, soak the seeds in a potassium permanganate solution (prepare the solution by diluting 1 gram of potassium permanganate in 100 ml of water). Soak the seeds for 25 minutes, then rinse with clean water and dry.

Another folk remedy for disinfection is soaking seeds in a garlic solution. To do this, soak 25 grams of crushed garlic in 100 ml of water, then soak the seeds for 1 hour, rinse with clean water, and dry.

  • Plant the seeds at a depth of 1-2 centimeters. Avoid planting the seedlings too densely to prevent them from becoming leggy and weak.
  • Watering the seedlings is done with warm water.
  • It is recommended to plant 3-5 plants per square meter. Plants must be hardened off before planting. Tomatoes are hardened off 10-15 days before the expected date of planting in open ground. During the day, the greenhouse is ventilated for several hours, increasing the ventilation time each day.

Important! 1. You can’t reduce the temperature abruptly, as this can destroy the plant.

  • You shouldn't start hardening off tomatoes too early, as this can slow down normal growth and prevent you from getting a good harvest later.

The holes in the open bed are watered generously and a tablespoon of Nitrofoska is added. One seedling is planted per hole, ensuring the root system is completely covered with soil.

  • Fertilize sparingly. The first feeding should be done three weeks after planting the seedlings in open ground. Dilute 20-30 grams of Nitrofoska in 10 liters of water per square meter of planting. Water the resulting solution evenly around the roots of all plants.

Then, monitor the plant's condition. Avoid allowing the tomato to become overfed, as this occurs when the foliage begins to grow excessively, which ultimately has a detrimental effect on fruit set. If the stems are thick and the leaves are dark green, the plant is adequately supplied with nutrients.

  • The plant's condition is reflected in its leaves. Yellowed and dry leaves may indicate disease or a micronutrient deficiency.
  • Mature plants are watered at the roots. Avoiding water on the leaves will reduce the risk of disease.
  • In open soil, the plant is susceptible to attacks from Colorado potato beetles, aphids, whiteflies, and caterpillars. To protect tomatoes, you can use the broad-spectrum insecticide "Aktara."

Note! When transplanting seedlings into open soil, the roots are dipped in a solution of Prestige. This protects the plant from the most common pests and diseases. The effect of the product wears off before fruit formation, so there's no need to worry about its effects on the body.

Reviews from gardeners

Varvara Alekseevna, 35 years old.

I really enjoy planting tomatoes. The "Charmed Destiny" tomato didn't disappoint. The tomatoes grew large, with full clusters. I managed to harvest an average of two kilograms of fruit per plant. The tomatoes are delicious and juicy. I used the tomato to make tomato juice, as my children love drinking it in the winter.

Nikolai Fedorovich, 53 years old.

I've been growing vegetables my entire adult life. My work is directly related to the garden. I live in a village, but in the city, I work as a consultant at a seed store. Over the years, I've tried many different new varieties. Last year, it was my turn to try the "Baloven Fate" variety. I planted seeds from the "Sibirsky Sad" brand. The germination rate was excellent. The fruits set and ripened evenly. I was delighted with the delicate flavor of the tomato. The pleasant, sweet aftertaste lingers long after eating it. I rate this variety as excellent.
