Description and characteristics of the tomato "Baranyi"

This tall tomato reaches an average height of 170 centimeters. It's a mid-early variety, ripening in 110-120 days from germination. The indeterminate bushes have medium foliage, with tomato-like leaves, unmodified.

The fruits are elongated and heart-shaped. A single cluster produces 2-3 large tomatoes. When ripe, the tomatoes are dark green, and when ripe, they acquire a beautiful pink color. The flesh is firm and juicy. Seed chambers are virtually absent, and the number of seeds is small. The skin is thin and shiny. The fruits are large, weighing 100-250 grams. With ideal cultivation practices, a tomato can weigh up to 300 grams.

The average yield per bush is 4-5 kg. To achieve a good yield, the plant is trained into 2-3 stems. The variety is resistant to fruit cracking due to excess moisture and has good disease resistance. This tomato is used in fresh salads, juice, and a variety of dishes.

You can grow tomatoes on:

  • open ground (Crimea, Krasnodar region);
  • closed soil (Central, Central Black Earth regions, North of Russia).

Tips for growing tomatoes outdoors

Growing tomatoes begins long before planting seeds.

  • First, you'll need to prepare the soil for growing seedlings. Young plants need a nutrient-rich medium for rapid development, so a week before planting, add peat moss and compost to the soil. For one square meter of greenhouse or hothouse, you'll need 10 kg of peat moss and 5 kg of compost.
  • The greenhouse and soil should be treated against various bacterial pathogens. You can use traditional methods or biological disinfectants. Calcination or freezing of the soil for seedlings is important when planting seeds in pots. In a greenhouse, the soil should be treated by watering or spraying. Potassium permanganate diluted in water or Fitosporin can be used as a disinfectant solution.
  • The greenhouse temperature should be at least 20 degrees Celsius. Seeds should be planted pre-treated in a garlic solution (25 grams of garlic dissolved in 100 ml of water, soaking the seeds for several hours) or in the growth stimulator "Epin" (according to the instructions).
  • The plants are kept in the greenhouse for 60 days, after which they need to be transplanted into the open ground. Before planting, the seedlings need to be hardened off. Two weeks before transplanting, you'll need to lower the temperature in the greenhouse or hothouse and create small drafts to help the plants acclimate to the unstable conditions.
  • It's recommended to plant tomatoes in open ground after cabbage, legumes, and carrots. Fertilize the holes with wood ash or a complete fertilizer (1 teaspoon per plant).
  • As the tall plant grows, it needs to be tied up and side-shoots removed. Forming the bush into 2-3 stems will allow the plant to produce large fruits.
  • After planting the seedlings, wait a few weeks before applying fertilizer again. Diammophoska and Nitrophoska are most commonly used. The next fertilizer application is during fruit formation.
Important! Strictly follow the fertilizer application rate instructions on the fertilizer packaging to avoid over-fertilizing the plant. When a tomato plant is over-saturated with micronutrients, it begins to gain weight and barely produces fruit.
  • Tomatoes don't need to be watered frequently. In dry weather, watering should be done once every 4-5 days. During cool and rainy summers, watering should be reduced to a minimum, as the soil will already be saturated with moisture.
  • Over the summer, tomatoes need to be weeded at least three times to prevent weeds from shading the crop and taking nutrients from the soil.
  • As soon as the fruits turn pink, they can and should be harvested.

Reviews from gardeners who grew the "Baranyi" tomato

Marina Petrovna, 61 years old.

Over the years I lived in the village, I grew various varieties of tomatoes. The "Baranyi" tomato stood out in my memory for its delicious, juicy pink flesh. Eating it was a pure delight. The bushes were tall, and each cluster produced no more than 2-3 fruits, but they were large. I used the tomato to make sauces, fresh salads, and juice. We ate the fruits with sandwiches.

Anfisa Sergeevna, 40 years old.

The "Baranyi" tomato variety caught my attention when I tried it at my neighbor's birthday party. I recognized it from him and planted it in my garden the following year. Our climate is warm, so I grew it outdoors. The plants grew tall, 1.5-1.7 meters. The vine produced only a few fruits, but they were all large. I was delighted with the tomato; such a sweet and delicate flavor is very rare in tomatoes.
