Characteristics and description of the tomato "Barmaley"

Tomatoes

The "Barmaley" tomato will delight many vegetable growers with its large fruits with a pleasantly sweet flavor, perfect for salads and juice. This variety was developed by Siberian breeders.

What are the distinctive characteristics of tomatoes and are there any nuances to growing them?

Description and characteristics

Tomatoes mature in 98-100 days from germination. The plant grows up to 2 meters tall. The bushes are massive and have medium foliage. They require pinching and tying to a support structure (stakes or trellis).

Planting real tomato seeds will produce flat, round tomatoes. Each tomato weighs 200-300 grams. The fruit's weight depends directly on how well the plant is cared for. The skin is thick and glossy. The tomatoes are pink in color, with a green spot sometimes remaining near the stem. The flesh is firm, with a slightly sweet, tomato-like flavor. The seeds are small, typical of a large tomato.

The "Barmaley" variety can be planted in open ground (in southern Russia) or protected soil (in central and northern Russia). The average yield per square meter is 15-16 kilograms. This tomato is prized for its excellent transportability and shelf life. In open ground, the plant is often susceptible to bacterial diseases.

Advantages and disadvantages of the Barmaley variety

Choosing among the many different tomato varieties can be difficult. Knowing the advantages and disadvantages will help you narrow down the tomatoes you'd like to grow in your garden. Let's look at the positive and negative aspects of the "Barmaley" variety to help you make the right choice.

Advantages of the variety:

  • the fruits grow large;
  • high yield;
  • the commercial quality of tomatoes is high;
  • dense pulp and skin make it possible to transport ripe fruits over long distances;
  • the taste is sweetish, pleasant.

Disadvantages of tomatoes:

  • requires treatment against bacterial diseases. To prevent diseases, treat the plants with Bordeaux mixture (solution composition: 100 g of copper sulfate, 150 g of quicklime, and 10 liters of water);
  • You need to constantly tie up and remove side shoots from the bushes to get a good harvest.

Growing and caring for tomatoes

  1. Growing tomatoes begins with planting seeds, which can be purchased at a seed store or ordered online.
  2. Prepare the soil before sowing the seeds. Add rotted manure, peat, and ash to the garden soil. For each square meter of greenhouse, you'll need 7-8 kg of peat, 5 kg of rotted manure, and 5 cups of wood ash.
  3. The Barmaley tomato isn't very disease-resistant, so treating the soil with potassium permanganate or the biological preparation Baktofit will reduce the risk of bacterial infections. Disinfection should be carried out two weeks before planting.
  4. Purchased seeds should be treated to increase their germination rate and protect them from bacteria that still remain in the soil, even after disinfection. A time-tested solution based on potassium permanganate (solution composition: 1 gram of potassium permanganate per 100 milliliters of water) or any growth stimulant, such as "Epin," can be used as a seed dressing.
  5. Sow seeds based on climate conditions and the planting location. Seedlings will be ready for transplanting 55-60 days after germination. Plant at a depth of 1-2 centimeters.
  6. To strengthen the plants, they can be transplanted from their original growing location into individual trays or pots. Young seedlings are transplanted after the first two leaves appear. Peat pots are best, and these are then planted together with the plant.
  7. Water the seedlings with warm water. For normal growth, the greenhouse temperature should be 23-25 degrees Celsius. Humidity should be 60%.
  8. Harden off the seedlings fifteen days before planting them outdoors. Gradually lower the air temperature each day by ventilating the greenhouse.
  9. Plant three plants per square meter. Immediately install a support to tie the tomato stems to. Once the root system takes hold, the plant will grow rapidly. Train the bush into one or two stems.
  10. Throughout the growing season, you will need to perform the following agricultural care techniques:
  • Watering is done in the evening, with the consumption per plant being 5-7 liters. Tomatoes should be watered only at the roots;
  • treat plants from diseases and pests when they just begin to appear and appear;
  • You need to weed the beds at least 3-4 times during the entire period to reduce the risk of pests and diseases;
  • Feed the plants 2-3 times. The first time is when the seedlings are planted, the second time is when the tomatoes bloom, and the third time is when the fruits begin to form;
  • In a greenhouse, you can mulch the soil to reduce moisture evaporation.

Reviews from gardeners who have grown the Barmaley variety

Konstantin Artemovich, 56 years old.

The "Barmaley" variety showed excellent yields. We were able to harvest 5-6 kilograms from a single bush. The fruits are huge and delicious. I bought the seeds online from the manufacturer "Sibirsky Sad." I buy almost all my seeds from this company. This tomato is perfect for processing into juice and sauces. My wife preserved a lot of the juice, and now we'll be enjoying it this winter. It's a shame the plant isn't disease resistant; I had to constantly spray the tomatoes against bacterial diseases.

Vera Ivanovna, 40 years old.

I planted the "Barmaley" tomato for the first year and loved it. The fruits ripened quickly and were large. Literally 100 days after germination, the tomatoes were already starting to turn pink. The flavor was pleasant, with no noticeable sourness. This tomato is ideal for processing into tomato juice. Canning whole tomatoes in jars is not possible; the fruit won't even fit. The plant is quite vigorous, but not disease-resistant.
