Tomatoes of this variety have a mid-season ripening period. They are semi-determinate. Fruits appear 120 (115-125) days after the first shoots emerge. A convenient variety, it is suitable for growing outdoors (for example, in a vegetable garden) and indoors (in a greenhouse).
Characteristics and description of the variety
On average, the plant grows to a meter, and in greenhouses under plastic, it can reach a height of one and a half meters. A cluster emerges at the level of 8-9 leaves, with subsequent clusters forming after 2-4 leaves (average after 3 leaves). A branch can bear up to ten fruits, sometimes more. Overall, up to six kilograms can be harvested from one square meter.
The tomatoes themselves are small, weighing approximately thirty to fifty grams. The fruit is oblong, dark red, and has thick skin. However, what makes this variety distinctive is its flavor. Juicy, sweet, and slightly fleshy, the fruits are perfect for eating fresh or in salads.
If you decide to preserve them, tomatoes will delight you with their amazing flavor. The skin also protects the fruit from boiling water, preventing them from cracking. Despite this, the fruits store well, but don't like to be transported.
Secrets of planting
It's best to plant seeds at the end of March. Before planting, it's best to treat them. To do this, dip the seeds in a weak solution of potassium permanganate, then rinse them under cold running water and keep them in a cool place for a while to harden them.
First, you need to grow the seedlings. To do this, plant the seeds in special containers that will provide them with a comfortable temperature (around 22 degrees Celsius) at a depth of about 2 cm. For safety, they can be covered with plastic film. After the first shoots appear, remove the film, and place the containers in a well-lit area under a warm light. Once leaves appear, the plants can be transplanted into separate containers.
If the tomato is to be grown outdoors, wait until all frost has passed before transplanting. Typically, after a couple of months, it's time to transplant it outdoors. Before planting, the hole should be thoroughly watered. This variety is susceptible to disease, so care is needed.
The bush is formed from two stems, which increases the plant's yield. To improve yield, soil preparation, loosening, weed removal, pest control, and plant care are also necessary. Fertilizers can also help improve yield; they should be applied twice a season; potassium-phosphorus combinations work well.
Tomatoes appreciate generous watering with warm water, especially during the growing season. Once the buds begin to appear, watering can be reduced to once a week. It's important to monitor the plant closely and remove side shoots promptly. It's also important to tie the bush to a support structure, as it's quite tall and thin.
What could pose a threat?
This tomato variety isn't particularly resistant to diseases and pests. The most dangerous ones are:
- Gray rot;
- Fusarium wilt;
- Phytophthora;
- Mosaic;
- Spotting;
- Verticillium wilt.
Gray mold is a fungal disease. Gray-brown spots form on the undersides of leaves, starting on the lower leaves. Without treatment, they gradually spread upward and can affect the fruit.
If you notice yellowing and discoloration of the leaves, it's likely Fusarium wilt. You can protect your plants from the disease with a Bordeaux mixture solution. Potassium-phosphorus fertilizers are also a preventative measure.
It is better to remove caterpillars by hand, and to prevent their appearance, you need to dig the soil well before planting.
Wilting leaves can also be caused by whitefly infestation. Their larvae attach themselves to the underside of the leaf and begin sucking its juices. The bushes should be promptly treated (sprayed) with Confidor.
Tomato pests:
- Aphid;
- Mole cricket;
- Spider mite;
- Whitefly;
- Thrips;
- Colorado beetle;
- Delayer.
How to water tomatoes correctly?
Avoid irrigating the bush with cold water, as this can negatively impact the plant's health. Water in the morning or evening, when the sun is no longer strong and scorching. Remember: both under- and over-watering are equally dangerous. Dry conditions will cause cracking of the fruit, while damp conditions can lead to disease.
Positive qualities of the variety:
This is a high yield, good taste, undemanding to soil (growth in open and closed soil - vegetable garden and greenhouse).
Flaws:
The disadvantage is that these tomatoes do not transport well and do not store for long.
This variety tolerates a certain degree of dryness, but is practically intolerant of excess moisture. Overwatering creates dampness, which is a perfect breeding ground for disease. If the roots of one bush are affected, the entire area will soon be affected. To prevent this, you can treat it with a fungicide.
Reviews:
Mikhail, 35, Voronezh: This tomato variety is very productive. The fruits themselves are tasty and firm. The only thing I don't like about brown varieties is their green interior. A vine bears 10-18 reddish-brown striped fruits. The tomatoes are smooth-surfaced, thick-skinned, striped, and very sweet! The bush is very productive; you can get almost 1.5 kg from one. They can be used for salads or canned.
Kostya, 48, Kursk: Black Moor is a small tomato variety. I don't really like the taste of fresh tomatoes. The downside is that they're susceptible to disease, but their high yield is definitely a plus. I liked them canned; they don't fall apart in the jar thanks to their skin, which is quite firm. I found them especially tasty marinated in apple juice.
Sergey, 38, Perm: This variety is very productive, with a bush about 2 meters tall. I grew it in 2-3 trunks. The tomatoes are small and plum-shaped. A calcium deficiency in this variety causes blossom-end rot. Therefore, at the first sign of infection, the plants should be fed with calcium.
Margarita: It's a good variety, I like it. The bush is tall, beautiful, and covered in fruit (15 fruits per branch, and there are more than one or two branches). I've been growing it in a greenhouse for five years, and it always produces a steady harvest. The tomatoes are small, tasty, sweet, and great for canning.
