Characteristics and description of the tomato "Dar Zavolzhya"

Tomatoes

Tomatoes haven't been grown in our area for very long. But there's not a single gardener who hasn't planted them in their garden. Among the many varieties available in our market, there's one with distinctive characteristics that have made it a favorite among both amateur and professional gardeners.

Characteristics and description of the variety

The "Dar Zavolzhya" tomato is a mid-season, high-yielding variety developed in 1992. Thanks to its excellent properties, it is widely grown throughout Russia. It is ideal for the central regions of Russia and the Caucasus, but can also be grown throughout Russia.

The tomato bush "Dar Zavolozhye" is low-growing, medium-branched, with green, non-pubescent leaves.

Productivity

This tomato is attractive for its rapid fruit production. It's ideal for weekend gardeners, as the fruits ripen simultaneously on the plant. Up to 7 kg of fruit can be harvested from one square meter.

Height, plant weight, color, shape, ripening speed

The "Dar Zavolzhya" variety is a determinate variety, growing up to 70 centimeters tall. The leaves are light green and not pubescent. The fruits are round, medium-sized, and the seed chambers are not clearly visible. Fruit weight is 70-80 grams, sometimes reaching up to 100 grams. The diameter is approximately 7 centimeters. Ripens uniformly in 103-105 days. The fruits are juicy and have good transportability. They are used for pickling and canning.

Features of growing and caring for the variety

The "Dar Zavolzhya" tomato is one of the best varieties for growing outdoors. Therefore, it should be planted by sowing seedlings. The fruits ripen 105 days after germination. They have a strong root system, much larger than the bush itself. Because of this, they don't require frequent watering, but should be fertilized fairly frequently.

Seeds should be sown as early as March or April. Thirty days after germination, the seedlings should be hardened off. They can be placed outside or the greenhouse slightly ajar. Start with a couple of hours. At night, they should be covered or brought inside to protect from freezing temperatures.

When growing seedlings, special attention should be paid to maintaining the temperature regime in the greenhouse, as well as timely watering and ventilation of the plants.

The "Dar Zavolzhya" variety produces excellent fruit in black soil. Before planting, loosen the soil and add organic matter. Plant the tomatoes sparsely. Stake the plants to prevent the bushes from breaking under the weight of the ripening fruit. Avoid allowing the fruit to sit on the ground. This will impair their marketability and lead to the spread of rot.

Before planting, it's especially important to carefully fertilize the soil. In the fall, add humus or mineral fertilizer before planting. Then, fertilize the soil every two weeks. During the flowering period, fertilizers with a high nitrogen content are needed.

Before watering, the soil must be loosened. Tomatoes should be watered infrequently. Overwatering is strictly avoided.

Almost the only drawback of this variety is a sharp decline in fruit quality at high humidity and poor tolerance to sudden temperature changes.

Tomato "Dar Zavolzhya" requires timely pest control:

  • late blight is treated with special preparations or a solution of copper sulfate;
  • Ash is used to prevent the occurrence of fungal diseases;
  • Preparations against aphids and mites can be purchased in stores.

Advantages and disadvantages

The "Dar Zavolzhya" tomato has many advantages. It has become a favorite among both amateur and professional gardeners. These include:

  • high productivity;
  • accuracy and friendly recoil;
  • drought tolerance;
  • long-term storage;
  • excellent presentation.

Disadvantages include poor tolerance to low temperatures and intolerance to waterlogging. This significantly reduces the appearance and flavor of the fruit.

Reviews

"The excellent 'Dar Zavolzhya' tomato is very easy to grow, the bushes are low, and the fruit was abundant. I was delighted with the taste and abundance of tomatoes. I highly recommend it."

"It's magical! They looked like ordinary bushes, they sprouted and set all at once, but when they ripened, I couldn't believe my eyes: they all ripened at once, there were so many of them."

"I really liked the 'Dar Zavolzhya' variety. The small, compact bushes took root well after transplanting. Even though we didn't have time to care for them, they produced a fairly high yield. All the fruits were perfectly matched. They were delicious when pickled. I'll definitely plant them again."
