The Demidov tomato is a relatively new domestic variety that quickly gained popularity among gardeners thanks to its characteristics. Demidov is a distinct tomato variety, not a hybrid.
Tomatoes don't require much effort to grow or care for, yet the variety produces good yields and can be planted in open ground.
Description and main characteristics of the variety
Demidov is a mid-season variety with a ripening period of 110 days. Compact, sparsely branched bushes reach a height of 60 centimeters. The green leaves resemble potato foliage. The fruits are dense, ribbed, flat-round, and pinkish-raspberry in color. A ripe fruit weighs from 80 to 200 grams and has a pleasantly sweet flavor. The skin of the tomatoes is thin and smooth. They ripen well indoors if picked unripe. This allows for a maximum harvest at the end of the season. Simple inflorescences form after the sixth leaf, with subsequent inflorescences appearing every two leaves.
You can harvest the seeds of this tomato variety yourself in the fall. The fruit contains four seed pods. At the end of the season, select a few large tomatoes and set them aside for seed production.

Regions where Demidov tomatoes are grown
This Russian variety has thrived in the Volga-Vyatka region and West Siberia. It can grow well in any part of our country, as it is adapted to a wide range of weather conditions.
Purpose of the variety
Tomatoes are eaten fresh and also used in vegetable salads. They are not well suited for canning for the winter.
Growing and planting
Sow seeds in March in prepared containers. The soil should consist of nutrient-rich soil, peat, and sand. Plant the seeds 1 cm deep, cover with a thin layer of soil, and water. The seed spacing is 4 cm by 4 cm. Cover the containers with plastic film for better germination.
When the first shoots emerge, remove the film and move the boxes to a sunny location. For the first week, the room temperature should be no higher than 15 degrees Celsius, then gradually increase to 22 degrees Celsius. The soil should be moistened a couple of times a week.
The seedlings are transplanted into individual pots when the plants develop a pair of leaves. During the seedling development period, a complex fertilizer containing mineral additives is applied three times.
Hardening off seedlings occurs a week before planting in the garden. To do this, they are moved outside for three hours a day.
In May, the mature seedlings are planted in a greenhouse. They are transferred to the open ground in June, when the soil has fully warmed up. By this time, the seedlings will have approximately 6-8 leaves and at least one inflorescence. The seedlings are planted at a distance of 40 cm by 60 cm. The holes are filled with humus, peat, a little sand, and a mineral supplement. Five to six young plants are planted per square meter. Tomatoes ripen three months after planting.
Caring for bushes
The Demidov variety is easy to care for; its low bushes don't require staking. Water the plant in the evening to avoid leaf burn. Loosen the soil. Weed. Apply mineral fertilizer three times per season.
Diseases and pests
This variety is not susceptible to disease, but improper care can cause brown spots to appear on tomatoes. These are signs of blossom-end rot, which gradually causes the flesh to rot. To prevent this, water the plants sparingly. Infected tomatoes should be removed to prevent the disease from spreading to neighboring plants.
Tomatoes can be attacked by Colorado potato beetles or spider mites. In these cases, specialized insecticides will be needed.
Demidov has established himself as a highly regarded professional, and his qualities have made him sought after and earned him numerous positive reviews.
